Lotek
The real question is... equal length or unequal length headers on a subaru? is the boxy rumble worth a few less hp? or is it all on purely performance. im curious on everyones thoughts
coldradio1
I couldn't imagine owning a suby with no boxer rumble. That's one of the reasons why I wanted my car. Plus, both types have their pros and cons. I guess it really comes down to how you are modding your car. For me, unequal all the way.
Chocoholic005
Honestly, the few horses (litterally 2 or 3 hp) isn't really worth loosing the sound. The only reason I can justify getting equal length headers is if you got a killer deal on them, got a turbo kit with a set included, or you were going twinscroll. Lotek
equal length reminds me too much of honda. i love hearing boxer rumble down the street, knowing its a subaru without a second thought. probably one of the most distinct car sounds. More like 10-15 whp and 20-30 wtq in the midrange...

Equal length headers gain more horsepower than that on tuned setup and an equal length header helps turbos spool faster, which is a good thing once you start stepping up to bigger turbos. More area under the curve = win. Unequal length headers are the sound of inefficiency.

gotsflat4love
I love the boxer rumble. I would sacrafice the hp for the sound. There are days where I will drive and not turn on my radio, beacuse the sound of the car and exhaust are the best music to my ears.
johnAWD
EL will sound pretty much like any other 4banger. UEL sounds, well, magnificent. If you are worried about losing a few hp, add 1 psi of boost.
Bbc84
That sound is what makes a Subaru a Subaru
dansbiker
^ the el on most exhausts sounds like a civic or any other beaner witch is bad even if it gives you 1 or 2 hp.. Subaru is better then that and thats why they have their own unique sound like no other
GEE-OTTO
UEL all day and I am NON-Turbo!! Eff all the performance talk when it comes to the EJ253 the EL gives slightly better bottom end but I will never enjoy that sound Sorry call me rice or loserz but if I wanted a In-line 4 cylinder I would have bought one and how can a tamed rumble not be addictive ???? I agree the UEL on N/A cars is more challenging b/c after we 1. MAKE a UEL that addresses 06+ redesign on the manifold 2. We have to find the right combo of resonators and mufflers You turbo guys have that little extra turbine to mill and even the rumble out. In closing UEL b/c EL doesnt provide enough gains to switch (EJ20, EJ22, EJ25)

blongo804
Definitely EL headers. The sound of inefficiency does sound nice, but it's nice to hear a Subaru that sounds different and amazing at the same time. I've heard some ELH Subarus before and SOME sound like a Honda but in most cases (StoplightAssassin's video) they still sound sweet. IMO.
