skibob6
Does anybody know, or better, have an owner's manual that has the weight capacity for a 99 gt wagon? The reason why I'm asking is because I found a motor and trans I want for a swap but I don't have a truck to pick it up with. Would it be Subaru suicide if I threw an engine and trans in the back and drove at freeway speeds for an hour or so?
mailman
it'll be fine if you can even get up to freeway speeds, lol
mailman
weight wise looks like ~600lbs for comparison i weighed my car one day after having delivered some of the mail and i figure i had about 500lbs of mail left plus myself, tools, dirt, etc. the engine will def. fit, not sure about fitting the trans in there with it. might have to decouple them. def. put the rear seat down
johnegg
check the door post, the weight rating should be there. but probably no different than driving 4 big guys with luggage. loading is going yo be a bitch.
cal71919
Props to you guys that haul shit in your wagons. I cringe when my kids get in my car!
spooln30
You'll be just fine.
Stevo F
I'd put some pieces of wood under it to support the weight. The motor by itself is about 300 lbs so it should be a problem. I would double that for engine and transmission
Kennyfvholla
Yep, I agree that you'll be fine. I once hauled a transmission, several other parts, and a motor on a 5 plus hour drive.
Moderators BarManBean Posted April 4, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 4, 2014 I think 600lbs is way high for an estimate. For reference, an EJ25 shortblock weighs ~90 lbs and a 4th gen 5mt transmission weighs ~126lbs (these are actual weights that I have from shipping these parts in the past). That puts you at roughly 225lbs. Add in heads and any other parts and I would imagine an additional 100lbs or so--easily under 400lbs. OP--put that swag in your wagon man "Bullet-proof" your OEM TMIC! <<Buy your kit here>> Not currently in stock
