purebluedoor
so i just put 1700 into the engine, all new cranks pullys gaskets etc etc etc now i feel a hard shift from 1st to 2nd, a thud. but at high rpm it shifts smooth ie: if im pulling from a stop sign slow and steady i get the thud, but if i floor it, itll shift smooth shifting out of 1st into 2nd there is a slight lag around 2k rpm, and then you feel the power come back. but shifts smoothly throughout. figure its time to get a new transmission, or parts , or just run it into the ground first ... it is automatic, 97 legacy gt btw, is a manual swap going to be fairly easy? had to buy auto bc my left knee was rebuilt. i think here in a bit ill be able to work a clutch. manual ftw
mattmattyxcore
I am having the same issue with a hard shift from 1st to 2nd but I'm guessing it is not as bad as yours. I honestly don't know what the cause would be but I will be changing ATF soon in low mileage intervals to do a "safe flush", if it helps I will let you know. Kennyfvholla
I don't know about the apparent lag in power during the 1-2 shift, but hard 1-2 shifts at lower RPM's are frequent "issues" in our 4EAT's as they age.. I say "issues" because it's not really an issue, it's just how it acts as it gets older. A few drain and fills or ATF will help smooth it out a bit, but it will never entirely go away.
