Quick rear pad question

When I did front pads I remember there being some sort of shim or spacer that was between the oem pad and caliper. I don't remember if the consensus was to keep or discard that piece. Is it the same deal in the rear - and if so, keep or discard?

really depends on the pads, some say to use shims and some do not. +1 if using oem pads then reuse the shims. its just there for anti squeal

my stoptechs say no shims, and cheap autozone pads had a rubber/foam lining

i kept my shims somewhere in case i need it later for whatever reason
