Bigdaddy41301
My oil pressuer light came on at start up and stayed on for about 5 or 6 miles and then went off. When my wife got home she told me about it and i went out to look when i started the car the light came back on.First thing i did was check the oil and it is full and still clean from the oil change 2 weeks ago. I am thinking oil pump maybe but i dont know what do you guys think?
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted September 4, 2011 I Donated Share Posted September 4, 2011 likely problems with the oil pressure sending unit. could be a bad oil pump, clogged oil port, bottom end problems, low quality oil, etc. If that light is on, you should NOT run the car. Lack of oil pressure will destroy the internals of the engine. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I Donated broknindarkagain Posted September 4, 2011 I Donated Share Posted September 4, 2011 ^Jab would know. Did you have an oil pressure light come on when your bottom end tore up? -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Bigdaddy41301
first time mine has been on and from the research sounds like the oil pump going out is very un likely so yeah prob the oil pressure switch but i cant find anywhere with a diagram or picture or video that shows me where it is located? Bigdaddy41301
I hope not i just put this motor in about 900 miles ago.
Bigdaddy41301
Another questions is if i put on a new oil pressure switch/sender and it fixes it will the light go out or will i have to disconnect the battery?
worknlikeadog
The light will go out...does anyone know why an oil light would come on at really low rpms, like 700 and less. Only a hot idle, but turns right off as soon as the gas is touched or if I let off the clutch.
Bigdaddy41301
Even 2 psi change will cause the light to come on it was suggested on antoher forum to unplug the pressure switch and see if the light stays off if so it is a short in the cicuit or oil pressure switch is bad. I Donated broknindarkagain Posted September 4, 2011 I Donated Share Posted September 4, 2011 If you unplug the sensor, the light will stay on......not stay off....because the ECU will be getting no return signal from it.....and it will assume that there is NO oil pressure at all. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Bigdaddy41301
Is there any way to test it without just putting on a new one then? I think it won't matter because i noticed some oil under the car i think i have a bigger problem. But it has been leaking since i had the new motor put in but only for a few minutes after you drive the car don't know if it is related or not. Bigdaddy41301
Will it not hurt the engine to run while i do a pressure test if the pump is bad?
Bigdaddy41301
Never mind i'll figure it out.
johnegg
did you reseal the oil pump and tighten the screws on the back side of the pump when you installed the engine? my guess that is your problem. the screws loosen and back out over time and then the pump does not pump as it should. is the oil leak from the 2 doo-dads (technical term) hanging down on the very front center of the engine? that is the oil pump. killerbmotorsport
I know this is an old thread, but did you ever find out what was wrong? OEM pressure light comes on a 2.1psi.
Bigdaddy41301
It was the oil pressure sending unit sorry it took me so long to respond.
A.J. Tarnas
Apparently the wire has been disconnected for my oil pressure sending unit. No gauge light or ODB code as a result, though.
killerbmotorsport
^ Correct. It's a 'normally open' switch so unplugging it is the same thing as it operating normally. It's also not connected to the ECU in any way even on newer cars.
johnegg
plug it in, and check the oil.
