marcus12
Just a heads up that it looks like State Police are using a gun metal gray BMW M5 with mirror tints on I91. I have seen him try to get people to race with him by swerving into their lanes, slowing down and speeding up, etc. between Middletown and New Haven. Seems a little bit like entrapment to me, but I'm no lawyer:soap_box: cheers, //marcus
BAC5.2
That is ridiculous. Reckless driving to issue tickets for speeding. LegacyGTBiggie
it is entrapment... On top of any traffic violations he is commiting while trying to do this. Crooked police make for good news.
MatsuDano
Thanks for the heads up. Even though I'm sure all of us here, being refined ladies and gentlemen fitting as such to own a Legacy and not one of those WRX machines, never street race. Also, if a cop pulled in front of me and starting doing that crap I'd let them hit me. One more reason I need to get out of this state On top of any traffic violations he is commiting while trying to do this. I have yet to see a CT cop, state or local, do less than 15 over the posted speed limit. They fly around thinking they are untouchable.
jerseyglock
LOL, just like in the late 80s. They were using Mustang GTs with all blacked out windows back then and Grand Nationals as chase cars.
LegacyGTBiggie
in MD they used to have a Integra Type R that would show up at local street races. They would run yuo and then bust you. Though the word about that car spread quickly. Transit Police in MD(particularly on 95 in Bmore) have some varying amount of unmarked cars to include Mustang GTs and Camaro SSs and Jeep Libertys and atleast one Minivan... The minivan scared me the most. I wasnt fly but I was moving through traffic. And I tend to be aware of my surroudnings very well. Next thing I know I see red and blues in my side mirror, as I slow down a minivan rolls by with a uniformed officer leaning out and giving me the slow down hand gesture. Needless to say my heart stopped for a second or ten.
MatsuDano
WTF? Minivan? Big brother can get awful scary when he doesn't have to abide by his own rules. And I mean that in a strictly non-conspiracy theory sort of way.

marcus12
Some crazy stuff they are doing to raise revenue for the state...I thought I paid enough in taxes to avoid this type of harassment! Seems to me like they are just grabbing fast cars out of impound and throwing some 'stealth' police flashers on em (the M5 looks like its police lights are in place of the reverse lights - didn't catch them on the front, but I'm sure they are there). Now...I know I don't stand a chance against an M5 with my stock leggy, but honestly, I don't know if I would willingly pull over if provoked into speeding like that...and if I did, I wouldn't say anything to the cop who pulled me over, except "I want your supervisor here NOW." W1CKED
LOL, just like in the late 80s. They were using Mustang GTs with all blacked out windows back then and Grand Nationals as chase cars. Heh...late 80s? In 2002-2003, the Jackson County Sheriff (Jackson MI) was using an impounded 5.0 Mustang..."murdered out"...as their chase vehicle. My father warned me about "a guy in an all black 5.0, egging people on to race...that's actually the sheriff". Didn't believe it, until I saw it with someone pulled over. BigBlack-V
I dont travel I91 often but if I do and I see this car I will call the cops and wait for the cops to pull him over and I will sit there to wait for a ticket issued. I was 0. And I'm still a zero.
Max Capacity
Thanks for the heads up. Like others have noticed, the cops do travel rather fast on the roads. Hey, just think of all your tax payers dollars going out the thier tail pipes. Remember they don't pay for thier gas, we tax payers do. I really pisses me off when I see them in a T shirt on weekends flying up/down Rt 84. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). I really pisses me off when I see them in a T shirt on weekends flying up/down Rt 84. Oohhh...it really bugs me in the when I see cops eating inside a restaurant while their cars run outside with the heat / A/C on (depending on the current season). I can understand if it's a K9 unit, but this is generally not the case. Our tax dollars hard at work there, too! Thanks for all the replies, thus far...glad to see I'm not the only one frustrated. //m
LegacyGTBiggie
I am pretty sure they have to keep it running, I forget why but there was a reason. Wish my brain worked better before lunch. It is wasteful but they have to do it.
CTSubiefan
Thanks for the heads-up. I don't usually cruise that section but it's always good to know what weapons are being used against us. I've played with a few M5's around the Norwich area but I generally figured they were heading to the casinos. seems pretty sketchy that they'd be able to drive like asshats to try to get us to drive like asshats. I remember all too well the 80's speed traps. One cruiser with a radar gun, come round the bend and there'd be a couple Mustang GT's and a Grand National hoping you'd run. They also had a Callaway Corvette on I-91. Fortunately for us, their budgets got cut after that.
Platinum_Racing
it is entrapment... On top of any traffic violations he is commiting while trying to do this. Crooked police make for good news. I don't think its entrapment, per-se. He may not be right, and he may not be doing things that are legal, but I don't think he's committing entrapment. Entrapment is when they tell you to speed, then bag you for speeding. He's not putting your foot on the pedal and making you press down on it, he's just inciting you. If they can dress up like coke-heads and buy drugs they can technically drive Beamers and try and race people. They're not forcing you to break the law, they're just seeing if you will. Still, since I may be heading to CT I appreciate the heads up. Its not like I'd race a BMW in my Legacy but I might slam on my brakes if he runs up on me too quick. Infact, I just might do that anyway.... They've got plenty of insurance and if they hit me I'll just roll around on the ground screaming "OH MY GOD MY CHECK... err... i mean MY NECK, OH GOD MY NECK!!!" bows09legacy
I'vee seen it and afew others in the chevy malibu, most of them are police inspectors trying to call it in. I had one on I91 between Meriden and New Haven fly by me and in so following him, 15 minutes later a trooper came up the on ramp and pulled me over. Though most inspectors dont have cameras and such, supposedly their word against yours is enough in the court system.
BAC5.2
That sucks! I saw a cop in an unmarked Malibu turn on his lights, got someone to pull onto the shoulder, then went by and turned his lights off. Ridiculous. I also saw a cop, yesterday on 695, logging into Facebook. trailcrushinbkr
Pretty sure there are ways they can get around the entrapment clause...anyways heads up on Black Dodge Chargers as well, some with tinted windows some with rims, some with both. grimsleeper
^^^ They were doing this near Stratford a few months ago on the Merritt w/ a murdered out Charger. I had one on my ass doing about 80, he pulled alongside in the left lane and would keep pace, speed up then slow down quickly and pace me again literally nose to nose. Did this several times, even with the tinted windows it was obviously po po. I could see the mounted interior equipment and uniform when I looked over - and he was grilling me:lol:. My buddy who has a WRX said the same thing happened to him, same car and same stretch of road two days later. Funny since 80 is technically speeding on the Merritt, but he didn't seem all that interested. It's pretty obvious these guys are looking out more for road racing than anything else. Don't get suckered.
bows09legacy
Radar detectors help, gives u a better chance to catch em before they catch u. Mine has always saved me and or put me in the position to know before hand. Just know they can still put fast cars on the road with low budgets. Theyve taken 2 corvettes and afew mercedes from drug busts and such to unmarked cars in the past couple years, and theyll keep doing it
gianspi
IANAL, but this is not entrapment. They are not tricking you into racing. You can continue driving the legal speed limit. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.
