Ninja Nemo
I'm looking into buying an '05 Legacy GT @ 96K miles w/ 2 prior owners. However, all the stories about blown turbos is starting to scare me. If nothing else, I'm thinking I should replace the OEM asap. Either way, I know that the internet tends to blow things out of proportion (although a quoted 5% failure rate is quite bad). I'm hoping this poll can better quantify the scope of the issue here in the forums. Please only respond if your Legacy/Outback is a 05-09 model (please correct me if the range is wrong). Thanks! murderDOCkill
05 here. Blown turbo @ 76k. Blown engine @ 83k. 5EAT. 2 owners before me. It happens, dude. If you're in the position snag a warranty to protect yourself. My extended warranty cost me $1650 and between the blown turbo ($2000) & the new short block ($5200) it's definitely paid for itself and I still have about 15k miles on my warranty.
