frank_ster
the other night i was drivign into monteal from my suburb and what do i see .. but a grand national .. so i pull up next to him and spool up and then blow off. then i get him to come into a parking lot. and showed them my buckaru. there were two in it a local gn tuner racer guy and they cars owner. i took the tuner guy for a ride. he was realy impressed by the cornering ability and the power full launch i could do even on wet. i think he wants to build the same now ! I have a secret Fiero "jones" (long story!!) Anyway, years back, there was the 20th Anniversary Fiero Meet near me, and my favorite car, apart from all the Chevy & Northstar V8 conversions, was the Canadian Fiero with the 3.8 & a Whipple: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/2641210 http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/2641210 http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/2641210 http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/2641210 http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/2641210 Ron
frank_ster
today the drive home was amazing ..little traffic about 80 degrees, i was part of a group of cars in the passing lane. i was reving about 3000 rpm in 5th. and the car just gets silent over 3k rpm. I figure its just how the exhaust balances. i mean litteraly i just hear tire noise! the car is quiet to begin with, not hard to have a conversation at any speed but i was realy supprised! underground000
aawweee i would of liked to see how you would do it. i can see how to make it fwd but not rear 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
frank_ster
its not a 4 eat. the interediate shaft and output shafts are simply welded together. then straitened. dont be scared its fine.. then the planetaries are removed. when 4wd is requested the power is frd from out put shaft through clutches to the outer hub. and then to the front drive train. its actually very simple. i have the shaft i just need about an hour to straiten it with the torch and put it in. Leviman
Wait a minute are you saying there is a way to set up the center diff to have selectable rwd/awd? Or is this only available with a 5EAT?
Mega Users seabass07 Posted July 2, 2012 Mega Users Share Posted July 2, 2012 Only with the 5eat. The 4eat could be easily converted to fwd, but that would be lame.
Leviman
Oh okay, I see. I've heard of the permant rwd conversions, but never a selectable one, that would be so badass!
underground000
thanks, took me some time to think about how it works:lol: i know the rear has clutches but never thought about welding it... i understand how it works now:) 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
Mega Users seabass07 Posted July 2, 2012 Mega Users Share Posted July 2, 2012 I think the trans directly drives the rear. The center diff and transfer clutch send power to the front. It's been a while since I've looked at the FSM.
underground000
the clutches are for the rear 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
ClimberDHexMods
no, the 5eat outputs into a planetary gear set, which without clutch pack lockup is functionally an open differential. Frankster took the center diff's input shaft and rear output shaft, and welded them together. So that piece is a continuous part from the 5eat output to the driveshaft. He can engage the front drive shaft by locking it to the center diff, effectively making it a locked center with the flip of a switch.
