Dont modify it they said, leave it stock they said...

You must be kidding me. How do you buy a Subaru and not modify?

This is the start of my build thread of my

2005 Regal Blue Pearl Legacy 2.5GT LTD MT Wagon

The story:

My previous car was a 00 2.5rs which I loved ever so dearly, but, last May we got some news that there will be another member joining our family so I decided we should get something a little more family oriented. I figured this would be my last car purchase for quite a while so it had to meet some criteria:

Fun to drive

spacious

economical

practical

and finally

Fun to drive.

There was no way I was going to buy an SUV because that does not meet many of the criteria. Of course I choose the subaru platform first, which had me looking for the perfect 4th gen LGT wagon. Which I knew waould be impossible to find so i started the hunt for a FXT because hell thats a pretty sweet car and way easier to find. Wife wasnt a fan. I had her approval for the wagon so i figured id look for a OBXT.

So the search was on, and then I found this...

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/la-ca-2005-subaru-legacy-2-5-gt-ltd-mt-244086.html?t=244086

Seemed pretty clean in the pictures and was fairly close to me so I called him up, setup a test drive and met him in a day later.

This Car was practically straight off the showroom floor. Id give it a 9.5out of 10. Car still smelled of brand new leather. Paint was imaculate, except for a small ding by the gas door. Tires were new, this car was PERFECT.

I brought enough cash with me to pay what he was asking and wasnt going to leave with out it because I knew, if i sat on this, it would be sold the next day.

So we agreed on $11k and I was off. Driving home I was giddy as youd expect, practically brand new LGT wagon, damn near flawless.

Tastefull mods too, Cobb 3" dp, and AP V2 stage 2.

So with a angel on my left shoulder and devil on my right, going back and forth with each other about modifying further or leaving it stock, I was faced with a big problem.

Well... You can imagine who won.

So the build begins.

Pretty isnt it?

Could be better, couldnt it?

So I tinted the windows right away

And picked up a cover for it. It came with one but was very weathered.

Ill explain later, gotta run...

OK I'm back, Let me explain how I've got to that point.

Since I bought it, I have added a few things:

eBay catback (the 4" burnt tip one), It works for now, the car was so damn clean when I bought it, the exhaust was an eyesore so I had to pretty it up a bit.

The sound from this catback is good. Ill get a video someday. Kinda loud for my liking so I also purchased a Vibrant resonator that is yet to be installed. The burnt tip is crap, the blueish color lasted for about a month and then left me with some weird looking tips.

Car also came with a Bosal Uppipe. But it leaked. It also came with the stock UP and also the stock DP as well. I gutted the stock UP and removed the bosal.

Left rear wheel bearing was bad when I bought it. Made a ton of noise. Replaced that.

The stock stereo sucks in this car, Eventually id like to get around to the jdm Hvac/din swap with a touch screen.

Front brakes were replaced with hawk pads and dba rotors

ill get to the rears when its time

Added this wrx lip from eBay that I'm not too happy about. But its better than nothing at all.

Polished the headlights and baked and blacked them out. I tried some eBay HIDS that were shit so I put the halogens back in. Eventually would like to do a retrofit of some sort.

Plastidipped the whole car Anthracite grey. Came out ok. But who cares, Protectd the paint and is removable when I'm tired of it.

Also added a curt 1 1/4" receiver to be able to tow some small shit. Considereing picking up that small folding trailer from harbor freight.

Also found a Used Yakima Railgrab system with 48" bars and locks the I got a good deal on.

And most recently I picked up this Rooftop tent for $500 at a open house event at front runner outfitters. (super stoked on that)

In the future:

Id like a little more power but don't want to sacrifice any reliability so I'm currently researching a lot.

I reallllllly want to lower the car, perhaps the koni sport package, but don't want to jar the little munchkin in that back seat so Im looking for a perfect ride.

to be continued...

Congrats on the car and the kid. Car looks nice. What rims are those?

And thanks for reminding me I need to clear my headlights

Thanks. Those rims are from a 14 wrx. Fit perfectly, no rubbing, no spacers, no rolling fenders, perfect.

You def need to clear your lights. It such an easy job that seems so intimidating. And very rewarding.

I know the deflector look so crappy on black legacy's. Previous owner was a moron though so I've got some other crap to clean up first. Example who thinks plasti dip would hold up on the inside door handle.

Man wished the Previous owner used that stuff then it would not be a problem now. It the interior door handles so Im just gonna peel the old (looks likes crap) sand them and paint them with a good plastic paint.

Silver wheels looked kind of funny after the dip so I tried the wheels. Couldnt pick between black or gold so I did both to see which i liked better.

  • 1 month later...

He looks like he at least did it right which is why it cost much more.

You see the kids doing it outside with a rattlecan for like 40 bucks but it looks like shit. His was done nicely, (even though Im not a fan of dip).

Exactly. Compared to a wrap, dip is wayyy cheaper. and can be done in a day or 2. vs wrapping which is like a week long process at least.

You can do it for cheaper sure, but it will look like shit, wont peel correctly, and you will give plastidip a bad rap like everyone else. all in all, you can buy a gun from the site for about $200 about $100 in prep material, and $300-$400 in dip. So thats still really damn cheap if you ask me.

I like the various suggestions to keep the car looking good and the consistent, "Ok" replies and obligatory pictures.

I think RBP is the prettiest color available. The gray was interesting for sure. Leave that to the boring colors.
