DIY TGV Deletes

I haven't seen a walkthrough for how-to TGV deletes so here we go.

WARNING This will cause a CEL if the rods are not placed back into the TGV housing along with the motor. The CEL can be cleared with an AP or a scanner.

I bought an extra set of TGV's but this can be done same day if you just want to use the one's already on your car.

Tools Needed:

1.) 10mm socket

2.) Phillips head screwdriver

3.) Fairly large air compressor

4.) Die grinder (I used an angled grinder but the straight one will actually be a little easier)

5.) Grinding bits

6.) Cartidge rolls ( I used 80 then 120 grit)

7.) 1/8 inch metal drill bit

8.) Hammer

9.) Clamp or vice

Heres the other bits I bought and a set of 80 and 120 cartigle rolls and tapered rolls

Step 1

Remove the 2 bolts the smaller side. I think it was a 9/32 but if not you can use a phillips head.

Step 2

Remove the 2 10 mm bolts from the larger side. Leave one of the bolts in only hand tight.

Step 3

This is much easier done with the motor still intact because the butterfly valves will stay in place. Try to remove the screws holding the butterfly valves in place. They have a tendency to strip out so its much easier to just drill them out. The picture below has the set screw on the right hand side already drilled out with and 1/8 inch bit.

Step 4

After both set screws are removed the the rod the butterfly valve will slide out of the rod. To get the rod to rotate the motor from step 2 will need to be totally removed the the TGV housing.

Step 5

When both butterfly valves are removed from the rod then the rod can be removed from the TGV housing. To do this the side of the rod from below in the picture will need a firm shot from a hammer. Dont pound it cause the housing is only aluminum.

Step 6

Now the TGV housing will need to be either placed in a vice or clamped down to a bench

Step 7

Using the die grinder, start removing the wall that is inside the housing. Start grinding about 1/4 inch from the edge. Do this on both sides of the thin wall until it is removed like below.

Step 8

Try to be as careful as possible but its not a big deal if the inside edges get knicked but grind down the remaining sections of the wall until almost flush with the inside walls.

Step 9

Using the 60 or 80 grit cartidge roll and tapered roll smooth over inside walls of the TGV housing. You can also follow up over with a 120 grit.

The holes where the rod was removed can be welded up or plugged with JB Weld (which I DO NOT recommed) or I have also herd can be left open as long as the covers are put back on the sides. I am going to have mine welded closed from the outside.

I do not recommend you to try this if you are not comfortable using a die grinder cause it has a tendency do bounce around when using the more aggressive bits. To do both housing will take about 3 hours to do. Hope this helps.

ive cross posted so many times now on this topic i might as well post up here. im having questions removing my Intake manifold and TGV assembly due to my 2007 lgt ac supply line.

Just tap the outside holes and seal them with bolts + JB weld. The TGV's are before any fuel gets mixed in so don't worry about sealing the cavity between the two cylinders.
