mattg
I have had the NRG hood damper kit on my car for the last 5 years and the struts are worn out. I have tried the auto parts stores looking for replacements but the ends are too bulky to work with the NRG mounts. Has anyone replaced theirs? Do I have to buy a whole kit again? TIA
jsalicru
You can get a WRX kit to replace the ones you have. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. mattg
You think a kit like this would work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Impreza-WRX-STi-GDBF-GDB-Black-Color-Gas-Bonnet-Hood-Damper-Lift-Kit-d2k2-/300662855955?_trksid=p3286.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6289904747173361909

OGHK87Jay
what about the price and the how high does the dampers extend the hood open? need some measurements
AZP Installs
Price would depend on which style (painted or SS). The hood opens very close or exactly the height of the oem opening height. I will have the guys check on some of ours we have installed for custys and get some measurements. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. planelazy
Does that have enough tension to raise the hood on its own after the latch is released from under the hood?
DocHolladay23
Pretty much, I only have to lift the hood about 6" before it will easily lift on its own, but I haven't tried to find the "catch" point though so it could require less. .Catalyst.
Yea it's like 5 or 6 inches and then the struts take over (which is good and bad - see below). They also slow near the top avoiding a jolt. My only complaint is that they require some additional force on the hood to shut completely rather than having a point where you can drop it to latch. With an aluminum hood, care needs to be taken when doing this. Still love them though! My last car had OEM struts and using a prop rod was annoying when working in the engine bay.
