mwiener2
After some poking around..the coil pack still works fine..as far as i can tell someone forgot to plug it in though when we swapped spark plugs My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
mccorry
It doesn't look nice... but that rusted stuff isn't the coils... it is just the iron core which functions as the electromagnet. The coils are still in tact.....
mwiener2
yeah, but if the iron core get's too deformed it changes the electromagnetic properties of the coil... less punch per spark if it rusts away that's not good either i'm gonna replace it when I get a chance....who knows where to get them cheap? StupidDent
how was the car running before? what kind of code were you getting?
mwiener2
I was getting a misfire code for the cylinder with that coil pack.....except it turned out that the person whop was helping change my plugs....forgot to plug that coil pack in. So that's why it wasn't firing. But the pack still looks like crap and i'm going to replace it before it does go bad. StupidDent
man, i got all excited after reading the first sentence... during winter time I always get the misfire code on cylinder 4. I've changed the plugs, wires, compression test, sea foam, lucus fuel treatment, and the only thing left is the coil pack. i might change it this coming winter if it comes back again... mwiener2
you don't have any "wires" so I don't know what you changed there..... Coil pack could be bad, but more likely you have a bad injector. The coil pack pictured above is still in the car and working just fine.
