RallyMachine
I have a clicking noise that sounds like it's coming from the front passenger side. It's most noticeable when coasting but occurs somewhat dampened when accelerating in any gear. When engine braking, the noise goes away. Braking seems to quite the noise...if I start braking before I take the car out of gear it seems to go quiet. However it will continue making noise when braking from a coast, unless a decent amount of pressure is applied. The noise seems to initially get louder, then it disappears under sharp tuns in EITHER direction. I ran up a curb a month ago and had to get my left rear wheel bearing replaced, but the dealership said that all others looked alright. A few weeks before this I had my passenger side axle replaced due to a torn CV joint. Any ideas?
RallyMachine
Bump. Here is a video of the noise...just putting the car in neutral and coasting up a hill (ie no brakes) http://s266.beta.photobucket.com/user/themadtestpilot23/media/2013-02-14_19-41-43_133_zps9b54ae9d.mp4.html
RallyMachine
Anyone? Changing the transmission fluid did not affect the noise - possible wheel bearing or cv joint?
subiefool
sounds like the cv but i could be wrong
RallyMachine
Bump. Took it to the dealership and was told it was something internal, possibly an output shaft bearing...thoughts?
XT_racer
I had a constant hum at highway speed and it was the tail bearings on the tranny. cost $1000 to fix!
KCwagon
Your description sounds like a CV joint....based on the video, something is not right though...
Swine
this has center diff bearings written all over it. My 05 LGT is making the EXACT same noise. The more i research this, the more it seems for whatever reasons 05 LGT's can be prone to eating center dif bearings. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/difficult-explain-noise-know-its-something-not-sure-200881.html
RallyMachine
Just to follow up on this, it was in fact the transfer shaft bearings in the center diff compartment going bad.....
