alexJay
I am hoping someone can give me some electrical insight. I installed my new auxiliary lights today and wanted to use the factory fog light switch. Once hooking up the wiring to the lights I spliced into the power supply that leads to the factory switch. Everything seems to work, however the fog switch does not control if the lights are on or off, they are controlled by the headlights being on/off which is, ok by me. I have done some serious forum scouring but could not find anything to let me know if what i had done will work or cause major issues in the long run. I have attached some images to show what I am talking about http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/5213201571_3c9c176c14_z.jpg 1. I removed the dash cover with the fog light switch http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4130/5213200561_f9d46d1417_z.jpg 2. I pulled the connector off of the switch and used wire tester to see which ones had juice. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5208/5213795580_f24bfde934_z.jpg 3. I then spliced the wire from the lights into the power wire (Purple wire, second from the bottom on the left) and re-attached the wire to the connector. Tested it and put everything back together. It looks as if everything is working properly but I was hoping someone would be able to tell me how to test that.

laz
That is because you wired it to the positive lead of the instrument lights (the one turns on the dashboard lights when you turn on the lights) This may not be as safe since now you are using a circuit that is not designed for a high current draw to power your fog lights. The switch only controls a relay that in turn controls the power to the lights. Why did you not use the oem harness if you already have fog lights? this way the relay will be powering your lights. alexJay
i have to admit i probably should have just used the switch supplied with the wiring kit instead of getting crazy with the oem switch. The reason i didn't use the oem harness was that i didn't really know what i was doing... where can i find the harness? do you know of any write-ups online? i haven't been able to find anything to help me figure it out
laz
Ok well do you have OEM fog lights? If so piggyback from them near the light. What fog lights are they? 55W? X ---
alexJay
i do have OEM fog lights, tho weak, they are there, so i should tap into their power supply under the hood then? yes they are 55w
alexJay
Thanks Laz, I fixed my terrible wiring job today. I feel like are retard for not taping into the oem fog power supply earlier. thanks again
laz
Good deal, I knew you would eventually get it, plus I did not want to write too much and get you too confused. How about some pics of the new lights? X ---
