TheBoostNazi
Alright so I've got the mod itch and the boost rash and I'm slowly scratching at it, I'm currently running an 08 LGT 5eat with a stage 2 open source tune, FMIC, catless TBE, my next step may be fuel pump and a vf52(can get bnib cheap). I understand that during a shift significant heat builds up between clutches etc but once it's in gear- what kind of power can it handle? It's one thing about letting it auto shift while WOT but if I let off for it to switch, then lay on it when its engaged I'm curious as to how much it will handle once it's in gear. I know there's a few guy here running an upgraded turbo on the 5EAT, I only have a tranny cooler at the moment. I haven't heard much about our gears breaking or anything while in gear, moreso clutches and diff needle bearings for hard shfiting and brake launching.. I already referenced the 5eat numbers thread
jim1969
stage II for a few years, stage III (vf52, perrin tmic, mad dad headers, hfc downpipe, perrin y-pipe, injectors and pump) for a couple of months. 5th gear grenaded. I had a tranny cooler also. changed fluid every 15k miles. never launched. the 5EAT can't handle much more power over the long hall. my $.02. others may disagree but.......... lieutenantcolumbo
It's a crap shoot. Mine went in a little more than two months w/Stage 3. I had the IPT vb. I also had the cooler. Didn't help. Most 5EAT's go from the top down, 5th, 4th, etc. The IPT Valve Body mod is apparently just a $1.00 spring to increase line pressure, but most have had pretty good results with it.....but it costs $769. ClimberD may offer a lower cost alternative: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/valve-body-mods-giant-leaps-forward-160101.html To minimize damage until you get your tranny beefed up: 1) Never go WOT in 5th gear, 2) Always downshift before going WOT, 3) Use manual mode when screwing around, this applies higher line pressure so there's less slipping, and 4) Never Launch.
