some more ipod stuff

been searching for a way to dock my ipod in the legacy and utilize the jazzy hack for an input. I have the monster icarplay fm/charging and it works perfectly in my 2006 GMC Sierra, however the performance is less then stellar in the Legacy.

 

1st - perhaps the "Sendstation Systems PocketDock Line Out" can be fitted in the ashtray for docking. This unit offers a firewire port for charging and a 1/8 line-out from the dock. (there is even a 1/8 to 1/8 cable included which will plug into jazzy's board) Cost is 26.99 from Amazon.com

2nd - use the Monster firewire autocharger for power. This has a 10ft cord allowing you to use the lighter in the center console. this is 14.99 at Amazon.

 

Any other options to mount the ipod? Isn't there a charger with a line out built in?

i have the DLO Transpod, and it works great. there is one with an FM transmitter, and one without (have this one). it plugs into the cigarette lighter, and there is a line-out mini jack that takes the audio from the dock connector - which is better than using the headphone jack. i ran the audio cable from a hole i drilled in the area under the ashtray, and up to the Transpod.

 

to use, pop the ipod in the cradle, and it charges and is ready to go. its also positioned in a nice spot to change tracks, etc. volume is controlled by your stereo.

bump im lookin for a good car dock as well...i kind of like the DLO above but im not sure

I use the Belkin TuneBase for my iPod mini. It plugs into the cig. lighter for charging, is bendy for optimal placement, and has a line-out plug at the base. You can run your cord from the Jazzy board out through the ashtray and straight into the TuneBase.

After more searching - the monster cable thing seems like the best solution. Dock connector for charging and mini-jack on the cig lighter portion.

This belking unit has the mini-jack on the dock connector itself, leaving 2 ugly wires in the open.

I did send an email to proclip, the unit with the dock connector will only charge your ipod, they said they are working on a unit that will utilize your own cable/ dock connector.

 

svxwrx - that looks like it might get in the way with a 5spd. any feedback?

i really have to just go to the store and try every single one

 

mbacis - they only make the tunebase for the mini, otherwise it may be perfect, the 60gb video is probably too heavy

I think you have the MonsterCable and Belkin backwards. The Belkin has the mini-jack on the cig lighter (you can see it in the photo) and the MonsterCable has the jack on the dock connector.

 

I haven't tried either. My concern with the Belkin is it has an amplifier in it. Why? That sounds like yet another source for noise.

i also have the 5-speed. it is possible that with a manual it could get it the way, since the shifter will be using a bigger range of motion over the auto. the kit does come with a dash mount (has screw holes, but super 3M adhesive foam tape would work) and a power cord that plugs into that. the cigarrette lighter plug could be cut and it could be hardwired for a cleaner look without the wires dangling around, so it would basically be like the kit shown above (Blitz?).

 

kit also comes with a cassette adapter, 1/8" mini plug, and arm extension. its pretty thorough offering several options.
