This usually happens when the car gets stuck, something with the computer not liking the wheelspin w/o the car moving. Unhook the negative battery terminal, step on the brake for 20 seconds, reconnect, CEL gone.

Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

NP

You can use that trick to clear any CEL. If you keep getting one, have it read by your local autozone/advance/kragen/whatever. They do it free, and it saves a trip to the stealer to pay for diagnosis.

You should never do that before you've determined what the trouble codes were. And you don't have to go to a car parts store to do that on 2006 and newer Legacy models. The thread at http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57243 describes how to use the built-in trouble code reader.
