Recommended Posts

We are pleased to announce the start of a series of large improvements to our Subaru support.

This firmware expands the Live Data and Datalogging experience with a few usability tweaks and a significant expansion of the monitor list. We would like your help evaluating these new monitors which have been entirely redefined and substantially expanded.

Examples of expanded quantity of data monitors. Please download the complete firmware notes for model year and make specific-details:

  • 2002 WRX 24 -> 66
  • 2006 STI 31 -> 83
  • 2008 STI 40 -> 94

New BETA firmware features:

-Added up/down button repeat when button is held (NEW!)

-Added selection wrap-around when top or bottom of list is encountered (NEW!)

-Added warning when more than 14 monitors are selected (NEW!)

-Increased responsiveness of monitor list

-Expanded monitor list

-Alphabetized monitor list

-Added selected monitor name to Live Data display

-Increased map storage limit to 100

The full release notes can be found here.

You can acquire beta firmware by opening AccessPORT Manager 2.0, clicking on Options, putting a check next to "Check for beta firmware", then clicking on Updates. Once complete the AccessPORT About screen should show v1.6.4.0.

Please check it out and let us know if you have any questions or issues. Should any issues arise, you can always revert to release firmware by unchecking "Check for beta firmware" then updating.

Knock sum per cylinder, very nice. Don't apply to 4th gen owners though :(

So A/F Learning is basically the same thing you'd see in Learning View?

You forgot to define AT Lockup SW I think, or maybe it was on purpose since I think it's self explanatory (indicates torque converter lock-up, right?)

Question, was fooling around with it today, and for the AT stuff, it is only on/off. For example, the AT torque per sw is either on or off...So what this means is when it is of the TQ converter is unlocked, in multiplication mode, and when it on the tq converter is locked up?

Hello there. Thank you for your questions. I'll try to answer them the best I can.

fishbone - only specific later models support knock sum per cylinder as designed by Subaru. The rest of the 2.5L USDM turbo models use only a single knock sum parameter and others, such as the 04-06 STi and 04 FXT do not support knock sum at all.

The a/f learning 1 a, ...b, ...c, ...d are the same values that learning view monitors for a/f learning #1 which are based on four airflow ranges.

The AT "lock-up" switch was planned to be added but it turned out that it is not supported by any of the ECUs that we support, even though it IS a standard Subaru SSM parameter. However, when I get back, I'll double check it to make sure.

Crazy8 - Take a look at my response to your question over at the cobb forums and let me know if you have any other questions.

RIPjeep2002 - When you see the abbreviation "Sw." in the AccessPORT monitor name, it is a "switch" parameter that only has two possible values (states), which are typically on or off. The AT torque down permission switch is actually a value determined by the ECU and relayed to the TCM. It is always ON except at very low coolant temps. I'm not sure what the switch signifies, but torque-down usually refers to AT gear changes where engine output is reduced temporarily.

The switches for the AT are nice, especially the shifting switch which asks the ecu to pull timing. Boost error is also awesome, I can much easier tell if I am overboosting and by how much. Knock sum is as useful as in RomRaider :D. I backed out of the driveway and the count was at 22. Gotta love the knock sensor.

The new parameter names means they are listed in a different order in logs. Is it possible to program the ability to set the order?

Is there a corresponding update to AccessTuner Race with these new monitors? ATR also likes to crash if you try to change realtime maps while you are driving. I've had this occur on two different AP Sub 002 on two different vehicles.

I've never had that issue but would like some of these new features on atr as well? Any chance the logger in atr can be updated to pull better resolution? Even with 4 or so perameters it will still glitch a little where as the logger in romraider seems much more proficient and can even pull 5-6 without even skipping a beat. Thanks merch for the update regardless. The handheld seems to not have this problem, only the atr logger.

There will be a corresponding update to ATR and ATP for monitors, but it is not ready yet. In addition, there will be an overhaul of the tables (with many new tables) in the same update. No ETA on that right now, but it is in the internal testing phase.

We have a release that addresses issues related to disconnects and crashes when real-time tuning or using the dashboard/logger. It is currently in beta and being tested by protuners. If everything checks out, we'll be releasing an ATR version.

We will certainly be looking at improving logging speed and addressing any inconsistencies in the logger.

Same here. Since you brought that up, I hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but what is the purpose of some of the switches, such as the camshaft, clutch, crankshaft. I am assuming they are for troubleshooting purposes maybe? I mean, if the engine is running I can only hope the crank is rotating :lol:

Would there be a way to set it up so that in the Settings menu we could have an On/Off option for "extended" or troubleshooting parameters?

I posted this on the Cobb forums too. Is a certain amount of ghosting normal? If you look at the screenshot posted by op, you can faintly see a couple zeros. Is that normal?

Boostin - Major updates will be announced on most of the major Subaru forums, including this one.

TRSCobra - You can set the live data list to only list the parameters that you are interested in. The default is to list them all, but you can go to "Monitor" -> "Set Live Data List" and deselect monitors so they will not be listed when viewing live data. Of course, you can also re-select them at any time or you can select "Reset Live List" to reset to the default behavior.

fishbone - You are correct - the crankshaft and camshaft switches (among others) were added for diagnostic purposes. Same with the clutch switch to some degree, but the ECU can have alternate logic when the clutch in pushed in so it could also be useful future development or for determining when alternate tables (some of which will be defined in the future TUNER update) come into play.

See my response to TRSCobra about being able to select which live data items will be displayed. Your settings should even persist with most firmware updates. Ultimately, we may look at adding some more advanced filtering down the road, especially if we go to add additional monitors.

The "ghosting" is intentional in that it is displaying the last live data item selected. For example, if you had selected "Throttle Position" and went back to the live data list, you would see the throttle pos. "ghost" in the background and it would even change when you played with the throttle. After a period of time, if you do not select another item from the live data list, the last selected item will appear (in this example - throttle pos.).

Thanks for all the questions. Let me know if I can answer anything else.

Already posted this elswhere too ...

Here's a thought. The new Cobb firmware shows the timing retard switch request from the TCU to the ECU. When it kicks in, the ECU pulls timing. Is there a way to control that amount? Because IF the answer is a yes, that may further help control the amount of torque the tranny is seeing at shift points and help it not grenade.

Do we already have that ability with the current tuning options?

The current version of AccessTUNER has this compensation defined for the 05-09 LGTs ("AT Shift Ignition Retard").

Anything like this defined for the 04-05 FXT's?

If I understand it correctly, for my car, the TCU tells the ECU it is about to shift, cutting the fuel injectors and leaning the A/F ratio momentarily, resulting in knock during the shift sometimes. Anyway of remedying this without the timing compensation table mentioned above?

The AT ign. comp table is not currently defined for the 04-05 FXT. The logic is different than later models as it does not use a 2d table, but individual 1d values. I will have to spend some time looking at it and then I'll add those values in a future update.
