lieutenantcolumbo
Long Block or Short Block? You can pick up a short block a lot easier. You can get a short block from http://www.FredBeans.com or probably most other dealers for under $2k. One dealer has a special on ebay for $1800. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280553622985&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT If there's a problem with the heads, send them out to a machine shop. Other route would be looking for used engines off some place like car-part.com http://www.ImportImageRacing.com also has some nice deals on short blocks. Max Capacity
A new oem short block is $2000+/- a 100. you'll need to have your heads checked by a machine shop. Any where from I'd guess $500-2000 depending on what's needed. Then labor to rebuild, and install plus removal cost. I have a buddy that owns a auto machine shop, he told me if I'm not looking for high HP just buy a new oem short block and have them redo my heads. He can't do the short block cheaper then the factory. They would give me back a long block. That price was north $3500. Now if you were going to do all the labor...that may be different. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).
