Wheel question

Recommended Posts

I don't post around here much, but...

My '00 OBW is currently wearing a set of OZ Prodrives. I'm getting a bit tired of them and I'm thinking about swapping to a set of LGT wheels, as seen on the '05-up model LGT.

(not my pic, obviously)

My biggest question has to do with wheel strength. Are these LGT wheels known for getting bent easily? I ask because my wife drives a Mazda 3 with similar 5-spoke wheels, and every time we get tires we get told that the wheels are bent. We've had them repaired more than once. I like the way the LGT wheels look but I don't want them to get bent every time I hit a pothole.

My other question is whether anyone's got a set they'd sell me cheap? I am of course searching multiple forums/ebay/craigslist but these sources seem to be dry at the moment.

Any help appreciated!

I have had the same experience when having tires mounted the tire guy says 3 of the wheels are bent. They are slightly out of round on the back side. So I buy three wheels on ebay and the tire guy says they are bent too. The 4 best ones went on the car and no problem until a deer crossed my path.

Just got new wheels for my replacement LGT. An ebay search for "legacy gt 17 oem wheel" gives real good results. You will find rebuild and replica wheels. I bought a set of the replica wheels and the tire guy said "they're round".

Hmmm... didn't even know replicas were available. None on Ebay are obvious replicas - possible there just aren't any for sale now. Is there a brand name for the reps?

The only full set of OEMs on ebay right now are $500, which seems steep based on what I've seen on various forums...

Here is the store I bought them from http://stores.ebay.com/ALL-FACTORY-WHEELS/Subaru-/_i.html?_fsub=997926013&_sid=53740713&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

They have both factory reconditioned and new replica wheels. The ones listed as "brand new" are the replica wheels, made in China. A set of four of either will be less than $500, but there is an additional $25 per wheel for shipping.
