Dual fan radiators?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what specific model had dual fans on the coolant systems? All of the FSMs and images I pull up show a single fan setup. I can't find the right radiator to buy, as they both having mounting points for a single fan shroud. When I say both I mean from 04/97 and to 04/97. I have a bad radiator and I'm not even sure what to buy :(

I have a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback... and it has a few other strange things on it. Specifically the head lights, which have some rubber boot cover on the entire setup inside the engine bay. And a oil heater... which isn't very common in MI.

a picture would help, but ....

all suabrus have dual fans since 1990.

(passenger side comes on when HOT, driver side comes on with the AC.)

and the fans on my 98 obw are both the same.

they look a little different since one is mount 90 degrees differently.

but they are in fact the same fan, and the same connector.

i'm not sure about your radiator problem,

go to any parts store and look up a rad for your year ans model,

and that should work.

do not be confused by a picture on a generic parts store site.

this is not a tricky item.

subarus are generally pretty simple and straight forward,

in regards to parts.

my guess is that the impreza uses the same fans, but i do not know.

Odd. I had bought two different radiators and neither would work because they would not mount properly. I compared both radiators side by side. I'll try and get some pics in a few days... They're stored on a dead laptop. Argh.

try this,

go to http://opposedforces.com/parts

and find the part number for your radiator.

then go to http://rockauto.com

and click on the ''part number'' tab at the top,

enter your number there.

if the price and shipping works , buy it.

i had no trouble buying a rad from advanceauto.

i ordered it on lin,

used an online coupon for either 30% off or 40$ off an order of 100$.

then pick up in the store, no shipping.

maybe not the absolute cheapest, but it worked for me and was easy.

(google advance auto parts coupons, choose ''retailmenot.com'')

make sure you order the GT for a GT and the L version if you have an L model, they arent the same mounting points, nor the same radiators. someday im going to change my L rad to the GT version, its a bit beefier.

Ugghh. I looked thru all of them and none matched what was in the car. All of these radiators had pegs on the bottom.. mine does not. Doesn't matter either way, I just made one work. Required little trimming to fit the top and bottom bracket, but it works, and doesn't leak.

That one I linked to is a 2 fan radiator. I received my radiator on Monday and just installed it yesterday. Bolted right in with minimal issues. I think it was tweaked a little during shipping, but nothing I couldn't convince into place when mounted.
