Plug n Play Aux-in mod for 2005 6cd radios

In my car, a 2005 Legacy Wagon, with only one CD in the changer it repeats automatically. There is a delightful 1 sec pause while the changer goes back to the beginning of the CD, the CD timer starts over at 0, and reminding me of how nice this mod is.

My iPhone connector (iSimple) that came with the kit had been working great until recently the charging part if the cable started to flicker on and off charging and now it won't charge at all. Playback has been fine, no cutting in or out.

Can I just easily replace the cable? I haven't been able to find it online. Any help Jazzy?

Hi Catalyst,

I wish there was a better option for a cable out there - it seems none of them last more than a couple of years in a car though. I'm not sure if that's an artifact of cheap Chinese manufacturing or a design problem with the 30-pin connector...or both. I wish I could design something better, but making products for Apple is a game they've ensured only the big guys can play - everything is completely locked down.

Anyway - you can buy a replacement cable here on Amazon for less than from me:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/iSimple-PolyWire-Connector-iPhone-IS75/dp/B001TH8O7E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8]Amazon.com: iSimple PolyWire Car Radio RCA Audio Connector Cable for iPhone or iPod, IS75: MP3 Players & Accessories[/ame]

That is exactly the same cable I sell - Amazon just gets a better deal than I do. If you find a cheaper place feel free to post it here too - it won't hurt my feelings. ;)

I also just asked my supplier about when or if they will offer a Lightning connector docking cable and apparently there is still no word on when or if that will happen. Not even Apple sells a Lightning-to-audio adapter, just a Lightning-to-30pin...lame.

/J

So after installing this cable again it turns out I may be upgrading to a iPhone 5. Because it has the digital only lightning port, can I use the apple 30 pin to lightning adapter with this? I've seen mixed reviews of that adapter not working correctly, as in not charging and playing music.

Anyone using an iPhone 5 with this?

I would also like to know this but I think it should be fine.

Got my jazzymod installed and love it. Only thing for me is the cable is a bit too short. I had it installed through the cubby in the center console and the audio shop guys that installed it said it was the most slack they could get out of it. Does anyone use an extender with theirs? If so anyone specific? Thanks.

Just installed the kit with the GLI, reaches a couple feet past the hole in the center storage area. Works great, loving the GPS speech that I can actually hear from my phone.

Thanks Jazzy E!

I think I'm going to have to go ahead and pull the trigger on this. The CD thing is getting old quickly.

You won't regret it. ;)

In reading the product description on Apple's website a little more carefully...

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter

It specifically says it *does* support analog audio output. So anyone with an iPhone5 should be able to use that adapter with the iPod kits I offer without issue. No one has reported back yet, but I also would not stick someone with keeping my kit if it doesn't work and will be sure to post here as soon as I hear one way or the other.

Regarding the adapter, yes, it changes the digital audio to analog. Does it change the 12V to the 5V? I couldn't figure that out. At some point the devices stopped accepting 12V changing, and went to only 5V charging. The cable I got in 07 only did 12V, and I bought a small adapter for the end that then changed it to 5V. It's not clear if the 30 pin to lightening adapter already has this built in.

adosdrummer - I assume you mean it doesn't completely load. It's possible the loading mechanism is being jammed by a long screw swapped positions with a short screw. There is one position where a long screw traded for a short interferes with the loading mechanism gear - try testing it without any of the screws removed during installation installed and see if it still refuses to load.

tdelker - The cables I've sold since around 2008 have all been the new 5V standard. I don't know if the adapter converts, but newer cable owners and future customers don't have to worry about that.

I honestly can't remember - it's one of the screws that holds the CD changer in place.
