gfxdave99
I have used the maniac motors 140amp alternator for 1 year with no issues. Solved my low voltage supply issue. Thanks! I just wanted to know somebody used one without issue heh. For 182 with core return its a good deal compared to some of the crazy $400 and up ones ive seen If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough. - Mario Andretti
m sprank
Yes it is. It is direct drop in too. I also have a 225amp alt from a BIG name company (on the SpecB the maniac is on the 5EAT). Had to grind the every loving s*** out of the mount to make it fit. I am very happy with the performance and reliability of the maniac motors alt. Especially for the money. lil_z_33
m_sprank, are both upgraded alternators you have the same dimensions as stock? I am going to be doing a rotated manifold setup, but need a bigger alternator as the stock one cannot supply the power needed for my stereo... m sprank
Maniac motors is an OEM housing with new guts. Pure drop in replacement. The other I have is not an OEM housing. Basically the same size. But takes a special bracket (supplied) and a lot of grinding on the OEM mount (A/C compressor side) to make it fit.
cootz
m sprank and gfxdave....what battery are you using under the hood? I am in the middle of this alternator/battery issue too (getting system installed soon with about 1500 watts total). Seems like everyone has a different opinion and personal preference on batteries. The audio shop said a yellow-top would be fine..but there are also others I could look into. I think i will do a big 3 and battery upgrade and hold off on the alt...hopefully i will be fine. I dont plan on using an additional battery in the trunk either.
m sprank
Stock, OEM. The one that came with the car. Battery is only used to start the car. Alternator takes over from there. I dont turn system on with car not running, so I have no fear of draining the battery. This is my 220 amp I just got for the SpecB. http://mechman.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/8_3231_3232_3233/products_id/391 I paid about half that price. But found it from another member. stevenva
DC Power Engineering. I have a 180A one. Been solid past 6 years. Blue anodized. My 96 Legacy lost reverse. Want to buy it. Wont fit in my 05 Bean. EDIT. I don't think it would work in yours if it's an H6 http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr85/smstavros/P1000831.jpg http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr85/smstavros/P1000832.jpg http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr85/smstavros/P1000833.jpg RIP 96 Legacy 2.2 4EAT lost reverse @ 374,000 miles
stevenva
Back to the very beginning of your power issue.. After doing capacitors and alternators with many 12 volt systems, It's always THE BIG 3 upgrade that has made the biggest difference. With my newer car, the 05 Bean, all I did was THE BIG 3 upgrade and I'm very satisfied with the results.
