Radar Detector recommendation . . .

I have seen more and more cops in my local streets these days: at night, after school, after work, and even in the morning. I don't really drive fast, yet i sometimes overspeed for 5~10mph, espcially at night -- after my lessons which finish at 10pm. I drove over the speed limit for 8 mph, and passed a police car today! however, no one were in side the car  I want to drive slow, but ,u no, sometimes it just happens :( So, i am interested in purchasing a Radar Detector...(just in case). I have heard Bel RX65 works pretty good. anyone used it before? it is selling at 3XX bucks. does it worth? any comments on it? thanks !

The Valentine is certainly very sensitive, but it drives some people crazy because it almost never shuts up. It's $400, plus $40 for a little module that put the lights down on the power plug (so people in other car won't see it at night when all the lights are flashing). And they now have a little carrying case that costs $30. Total: $470. The Escort and Bel models have the carrying case and special plug standard, they win most tests these days, and cost about $300. Here are some recent tests: http://www.radartest.com/ http://www.motortrend.com/features/consumer/112_0402_radar/ http://www.speedzones.com/

Valentine One. Fewer false alarms, and the threat indicator arrows are invaluable. Other detectors seem to win tests, but in the real world, when people try the Valentine, they love it. I remember being skeptical, too, until I used one. Then my reaction was, "Where has THIS thing been all my life?" Kevin

Valentine 1 I didn't believe the hype till I got it. Before with my old passport I had to be almost ontop of a cop for it to go off. First time drive w/ the valentine it went off and I was looking around thinkin this thing is too sensitive...about a 1/3 mile up there he was. :)

I favor the cordless radar detectors. They are great because you can run them on the cord but I usually use battery power to avoid the hanging cord or using a power outlet. I have experience with Bel, Solo ( by escort) and a newer one by pni called the silver bullet. All work well but the Solo is very expensive. The last detector is the best I have run across for a really good price. I bought it a few months ago at radardetectors.com for about $180.00 including shipping. I was suprised at the sensitivity yet it has a filter for x band if desired. This lets it miss the false alarms caused by supermarkrts, etc. works real well at a good price. Jay

I've been really happy with my Valentine One v1.7. It does give alot of false alarms in the suburbs, but can be easily ignored. You can get a good used 1.7 on ebay for around 300(around the price of a passport) if price is an issue. The arrows are definately a plus. Not to mention multiple bogey counter... Just my .02 Cheers, Sean
do u guys have any pics of these dectectors installed in your car? how do they look like?
I don't have pics....will take some when I get a chance. Mine is mounted the same as the one done in the Valentine 1 thread, only I put the remote display in the center cubby w/ my defi link meter. Mine as well make use of it. :)

Hey - I'm selling my Valentine One! It's less than 1 year old, used maybe 2-3 times, perfect MINT condition (looks 100% brand-new)... best price gets it! Brand new it goes for $440+, and I know on eBay, the detector itself goes for about $300, so give me some good offers. ;) I'm also including the Concealed Display Adapter (with band ID) For more info, check out http://www.valentine1.com Send an E-mail to y2k4tsx@aol.com - Thanks!

I have a Passport 8500 X50. Passport also sells a Lazer jammer that integrates with the 8500. They have a unit that mounts in the grill and connects to the radar detector. It sends a false Lazer signal when the cop shoots it at your license plate. Apperantly the cop receives an ERROR on his display. No US government authorities regulate the the projection of light so it's legal.

I borrowed my friend's Valentine 1 for two weeks and found the arrows useless. If you get a K or Ka hit, better hit the brakes NOW, instead of trying to figure out which directional arrow is blinking. My experience is the V1's arrows usually flicker between left, right, fron and back because radar bounces off buildings, other cars, etc. I bought a Passport 8500 X50 and I'm extremely happy with it. Mike Valentine discounts the lack of POP detection on the Valentine 1. POP mode is present in the latest police radar guns. In POP mode a radar gun sends out very brief signal and shows your speed on the display before a radar detector can lock on the signal. Valentine says that POP detection is useless because the police can't use it to write tickets. He quotes the radar gun manual warning officers not to use POP mode to write tickets. Just because the radar gun manual says you're not supposed to use POP mode doesn't mean officers will follow directions. How are you going to know if you were clocked in POP or regular mode. The Passport 8500 X50 has POP detection and it has been useful to me. If anybody out there wants find out for themselves how nice POP detection is, just drive through Malibu, California on Pacific Coast Highway. One night, I made two passes through town and got 5 Ka hits and 7 POP hits. It is my understanding that the Bel RX65(?) is a clone of the Passport 8500 X50.,

Because if I had a Valentine 1 that night in Malibu, I would have received a ticket, that's why! P.S. The Valentine has identical red LEDs to indicate X, K, Ka and laser. Pretty tough to tell visually what's painting you.
