Ken S
Like the topic reads: what's the best way to remove the residue left from the taped wheel weights? I've tried the basics like gentle washing and scrubbing, but the foam adhesive strip is quite stubborn. I've tried Simple Green and wax/cleaner as well. I don't quite want to use a razor blade yet. Any good ideas? Ken
racerdave
GooGone, available at any hardware store should do the trick.
thatmank
WD-40 would work well too. Just for the wheels though.
Guest JessterCPA
Goo Gone. We used to use that when I worked retail to take off price tag residue. Works great.
Ken S
Great -- I'll give those a try. I'm taking my GT into a specialty alignment shop tomorrow and wanted the wheels to be ready for re-balancing. Ken
hal9e3
Isn't GooGone fairly strong stuff, to the point where it could take off the clearcoat? Or maybe I'm thinking of Goop... Anyway, Simple Green will work well and is definitely safe for the finish.
Kevskate99
We use BrakeKleen at Audi, works perfect, just clean the wheels with soap after, and you'll be good.
Rimfaxe
Unfortunately I did not remove my wheel weights before I had the Toyo's installed at the Subie Dealer. They gouged my rims with a screw driver to remove the weights. I now have scratched and gouged rims! Goo Gone removed the adhesive to allow a much better view of the gouged paint on the rims. Thanks Pence Subaru, Midlothian VA!
sgl
A hair dryer does the trick too. My local tire shop recommended it.
