bgill
I have a 2004 Legacy 2.0R, Japanese import driving it here in New Zealand. Had it 6 months and its developed a problem where it just has no power under 2500rpm... once it gets above that it winds up no problem. When you reset the ECU, problem goes away for 2 days then comes back. No dash fault codes come up. After much investigation, im told by the service agents that the ECU thinks the knock sensor is telling it there is a problem, but... if the knock sensor is removed, it still detects a knock!! So must be some kind of fault or interference in the ECU? The shop reckons it could be fixed with a software update, but the file to fix it doesnt exist because its a Japanese spec car in NZ, and the problem may be related to NZ fuel and doesnt occur in Japan. So Subaru NZ's software is no good, and Subaru Japan are not interested. Mechanics here say nothing can be done, and suggested installing a kill switch to reset the ECU before I drive the car every time!!! Theres got to be a better solution, 3rd party software?? something... Any suggestions would be awesome!
