Skidder43
I replaced the gasket on my 1993 Legacy Turbo automatic AWD a few months back and torqued the bolts down to what I remember to be a measurement in inch pounds. When I first drove it after the replacement I smelled a burning oil smell which I wrote off to some engine grime that had collected on my exhaust somewhere when I pressure washed the engine compartment. I now know from adding a few quarts over time that it is leaking again and has gotten gradually worse and that it is coming from the pan gasket and flinging up onto my exhaust. I guess I have to re-torque those bolts again or I never had the correct torque values to begin with. What is the correct value so I can quit buying tranny fluid every week. Legacy Wagon
If I had my manual with me I'd let you know, but I personally just torqued mine down til they felt pretty tight and it hasn't leaked a bit.
Bdubs
Did you use an RTV sealant or a felt gasket?
Legacy Wagon
I think I used both. Put a small amount of RTV on the provided felt gasket. Been a while.
Bdubs
The RTV sealant is a much better alternative to felt gaskets. The Permatex ultra grey is great because it won't degrade due to oil or fluid or even high heat exposure.
Legacy Wagon
Yeah, I had my car up on a lift the other day and was looking around and noticed small cracks in the provided trans pan gasket. Wasn't leaking a bit, but it wont last forever either.
