EZ3.0 camgear to camshaft pin sank into shaft - HELP

Recommended Posts

This happenned during EZ3.0 refresh (headgaskets, etc). Heads were taken off and during the reassembly one of the pins that positions camgear on the camshaft went in(don't know the details on how exactly it happenned). Two pictures attached show the normal one and the one with pin sunk.

Drilling out did not work.

Is there a non-destructive way to pull that pin out and keep the camshaft? May be a Subaru special tool? Or new camshaft is the only option?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for chiming in guys.

I have no access to this motor, it was a picture that someone I know shared with me asking for advice. From what I know the pin is there pretty tight and they were unable to drill it out or grease it enough to knock it out/pull it out. They tried heating the shaft while spray cooling the pin hoping that would allow them to pull it out. Even spot welded something to the pin and tried to pull it out still to no success.

It is unfortunate since the guy successfully rebuild few EZ30 before without any issues. From what I know he ordered a replacement camshaft, that's where its at now.
