naimouasta
i know the general consensus is to only buy OEM water pumps but i was looking for the OEM part "21111AA280" and it seems to have the crappy blade design too. is that right? i was planning to get the Gates TCK307 kit which consists of the belt, pulleys, and tensioners; and then get an OEM pump, but if the OEM pump has the crappy blade too then whats the point. i can get the Gates TCKWP307 which includes the waterpump for just $30 more instead of $100+ for the OEM. can someone confirm? this is for a 2008 outback 2.5i BTW. http://www.subaru-car.ru/getimg.php?path=/catimages/21111AA280_1.jpg&w=400&h=400&m=resize
chutoyy
I just did my timing belt and my pump looked exactly like that with the open impeller... I forgot what the OEM one looked like though. I think you should be fine using the Gates kit, but get a Subaru metal gasket.
GTPpilot
I've got 15k miles on my gates kit so far with no issues. I am keeping my OEM pump as a spare just in case. I also used an OEM metal gasket when I did the change.
