Nichomas
What are the best mods to start with? Probably more simple things, not looking to rebuild my engine right now
Baddog
Suspension. Biggest upgrade you can do. I've put together some basic N/A builds and they are fun. But you already have a 2.5 and all mine have been 2.2's with frankenmotors.
Zues Marine
depending on the shape and mileage of the motor, first thing i'd consider doing is the Seafoam treatment.. after a tank of that, -Oil/filter change ($30) -NGK V-Power Copper Spark Plugs ($10) -NGK 8mm Plug Wires ($60) -MSD 8239 Ignition coilpack ($80) -8mm Grounding Kit ($15) these are the basics that will tune up your motor so it lasts though the future mods and utilize all available mpg after that you can go one of a couple different ways, suspension and aesthetics for looks, youre pretty much limited to the jdm market.. although 'limited' is incredibly misleading as these cars had massive aftermarket support there.. JDM projector headlights ($250) are an incredible upgrade and one of my favorite mods ever, just modify the projector to compensate for the RHD cutoff or aim it a bit lower so you dont blind other drivers.. JDM second gens are '93-'98 so any parts you stumble across with that title or bg5, will fit with the exception of motor stuff . . . . here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/second-gen-aftermarket-parts-and-upgrade-guide-superceded-147261.html
Nichomas
Any recommendations on brakes or coilovers?
Zues Marine
for brakes, fronts at least..bugeye wrx calipers and their brackets will allow for an 11.7" rotor, and is also a bit wider too, better ventilated in the rear, outback H6 model rear brakes are significantly larger than stock and make the car feel like it is 'squatting' under braking then get some stainless steel lines and ebc pads and youll be more than happy coilovers- if you're not going for and insane track car but instead a spirited daily driver.. raceland ultimo coils made for the gd impreza give a decently priced bolt on option any 04 sti coils will also bolt up with the exception of the rear tophats... theyll need to be swapped with original legacy ones

Just a return to something close to original MPG or 1-2 extra?

The rear sway bar and rear strut tower brace are a huge deal for the wagons as they are significantly less rigid than the sedans.
pleaidestar
Suspension mods are definitely the best thing to start with on any car, then on to a clean running motor, then get some sticky z-rated tires and you will be cornering like a mini-cooper, taking 90° turns at 40 mph. fun times.
