maddoc
Is there anyone out there running 255/35/18s on either an 18x8.5 or 18x9 wheel or will I be one of the few (or only). I remember Keefe ran a 255/35/18 (I think) on a +51 rim. I'm going to be running an 18x9 +43, and I'm trying to figure out if a 255 will stuff under the fenders... ugh
whitetiger
it will fit with a good fender roll/pull and the right camber. i run 255/38/18 r-comp for autox.
maddoc
Let's say we do a roll and no pull ? I'd rather not pull my fenders What's the specs on the wheels you run ? I'm thinking of Continental DWs or the Hankook V12 Evos.
whitetiger
48 in the front and +38 in the rear(+48 with a 10mm spacer for inboard clearance). you should be ok with a +43 wheel as most street tires run less wide than my hoosier a6's. be prepared to pull the fender a little and to trim the fender liner accordingly. Where'd you get the custom 38 aspect ratio tires? In answer to my unasked question - what wheels are you running with that setup? http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3677548&postcount=25 says i run 255/35/18 Hoosier A6's on 18x8.5 wheels myself. grippity grip grip Build my car Boxkita Track days
whitetiger
that should be a 35. hehe
maddoc
Nice! I'd really like to avoid pulling, even a little. Rolling flat is fine with me. Maybe I need to step it down a notch to 245/40 or 245/35? It's only a street car, I just like wide
lil_z_33
I plan on running yokohama AD08 in that size on 18x8.5 +48 offset...I have rolled fenders with a minor pull...this will be a track only setup, will post back when I do go through with it... whitetiger
245/35/18 will be easier to fit. but you still may need a roll and pull perhaps. if you do go for a 245/35/18 a better offset wheel will be a +48.
maddoc
Well its going to be between 245/35/18 and 255/35/18. My fear with 245/35/18 is lack of protection from pot holes. God I need to find someone with wheels and tries to try on in the area.
tsunami
I'd be scared to run a 245/35/18 in the DMV area. I've been thinking of running a 245/40/18 on 18x8.5 +43 for my summer set up.
maddoc
Yeah...that's what I'm worried about with the 245/35. I'm scared 245/40 will be too tall and cause other issues.
maddoc
A little update: 255/35/18 Conti ExtremeContact DWs will be arriving at my door on Wednesday. They're going to be mounted on those 18x9 +43 offset wheels. Will post another update in the next couple weeks. I expect at the very least a roll and a couple degrees of negative camber on the front & rear.

maddoc
I popped the 18x9 +43 wheel on the car while it was in the air yesterday for some work, just to see... Let me say, I'm kind of scared of the fender clearance on the front ! Granted, the car was not settled on the ground, but man, it was sticking out about a 1/4" past the fender... What else would you like me to call it when the tire and wheel sticks out past the fender? Because everywhere else in the subaru community that is what its known as. I said my wheels are sticking out past the fender 1/4" with the suspension UNLOADED. There was no tire on the wheel and the car was not on the ground. The point of this thread is to attempt to fit 18x9 wheels with 255/35/18 tires, for performance reasons, on my Legacy. Not for hellaflushness. Maybe you should read the thread before posting some dumbass comment.
1055
I did read the whole thread. If its unloaded and its sticking out what do you think is going to happen when you shove the whole thing up into the fender? Physics and logic say that the control arm swinging upwards will place the wheel FURTHER out than what it is now. And what exactly does mexipoke have to do with me and hellaflushness? I have 225's on a 7.5" wheel and before that i had 255's on a 9.5" wheel. Im all about wide sticky tires and am all for it. The fact that you got so offended by my comment is kind of ridiculous. boxkita
Before this thread totally derails...I just ordered 18x9.5 +38 Enkei, with the hope of getting 255 or 265 tire mounted up. I also ordered Whiteline bits to allow more camber in the rears (@stock setting max is -1.0). Looking at Whitetiger's 255 Hoosiers, I'm debating BFG R1 in 265 or Pilot Cups in 265. OP - what tires are you looking at? Have you ordered yet? 1055 - a 245/40/17 BFG KDW sticks out about 2 inches hanging on the lift. Dropped and sitting on the floor, it was closed to .5 inches. That was on a stock suspension 05 wagon. With c/o and decent camber (-2.), it would have tucked under nicely. Provided you did a roll on the fenders (if you are serious, you'd pull the inner liners to get more travel and less rubbing) Build my car Boxkita Track days
1055
I was under the impression op was talking about the center mass of the wheel... Not the top portion of the wheel closest to the fender which will obviously protude due to the positive camber angle induced at full suspension hang. But thats what i get for thinking with reason and such.

But thats what i get for thinking with reason and such. I meant the top of the fender looking down, the top portion of the wheel. Sorry I didn't know I needed to measure the center of the wheel. I was under the impression that you thought this was a "hellaflush" thread, hence the offense. Sorry. My PMS is over now.
maddoc
They're on (well one side is). What I've figured out so far: I'll need to roll the rears and maybe a slight increase in camber in the rear. For the fronts I may just need a camber increase. If not just that, a bit of a roll as well. I need to get the 2 other wheels on over the week and pull the car out of the garage and get better pictures. whitetiger
check your inboard clearance, especially in the rear. the tire gets very close to the body where the strut goes in to. right at the top inside of the tire.
