rust repair. need some guidance

I have no advice on fixing the rust, but I can advice you that if you haven't done so already, remove the rubber strips that are in the fender on the upper portion of your rear wheel wells. They tend to trap water and dirt and cause exactly what you're seeing.

My experience with rust, unfortunately, is that once it's like that (bubbling from behind the paint), you have no choice but to replace the panel.

true but you can get away with cutting out only the rusted portion and welding in a new piece.

I had my lgt done this year and I have pics of the process somewhere.

Here are the pictures, my rust bubbles looked very similar to yours.

Also one thing to note is that almost every time you see rust bubbles on the inside there is more rust hiding beneath it.

woops, forgot about this thread!

im aware rust goes deeper than whats on the surface. right now im just looking for a way to slow down the rust and get me through the winter. ill probably have it cut out in the spring.

i guess what im looking for at this point is the best color match paint i can get for brilliant silver. i stopped by the subaru dealer and all they had was the paint pens, was hoping for a spray. ill probably look around to see what i can get my hands on.

Subbed for info.

My 05 GT Wagon is rotting in the same area, the typical Subaru area. I was considering buying a new quarter panel and welding that in, but i'd like to know exactly where the rot comes from, and why it begins right there. I know for a fact it originates on the inside, but if there were some way to prevent it, it'd save me headache in the future.
