Aced
Hi, I have an HID kit, not sure which one it is as the PO installed the setup. However, my front left bulb is dim at startup and then goes out completely after I've driven the car a few miles. Can anyone help me diagnose this problem. I'm not familiar with HID bulbs, is their a bulb that can they be replaced like halogens, or does the whole projector need to be replaced? Is being dim a sign of an electrical connection that isn't completely in contact? Thanks for your replies..
Zues Marine
this is an HID kit: http://www.ultimatehidkits.com/images/hid-kit-large.jpg make sure you have HIDs and not just those obnoxious Xenon bulbs, although you mentioned projectors so i'm assuming you're good.. flickering can be due to a loose ground so I'd check those first... but unless it's a relatively nice or new set of HIDs, the bulb is probably getting tired just buy a PAIR of 4500K H1 HID bulbs. You can get them anywhere but this place is my fave.. even tho shipping is more than the bulbs.. http://ddmtuning.com/Products/HID-Bulb-Replacements-Pair here's a handy graphic on why not to choose gay ass HID bulbs over 5000 Kelvin!, the Y axis represents light output in lumens http://www.bolt.co.jp/images/hid_lum_003.jpg

I've had a couple HID kits over the years and a cpl had that issue and it was a bad ballast. Depending on where you bought them from you can warranty or see if you can purchase a ballast by itself.. ORRR just buy a new kit lol
snederhiser
Hello; Check the underhood fuse and relay box. I believe that a bad fuse could be your problem, #24 & #26. Had this happen on an earlier legacy, dim headlight on the driver's side. Steven.
Zues Marine
another reason a bulb goes out after starting is that you dont have a large enough gauge of wire to supply the initial surge of power needed to fire the HIDs
