Okay, so I just picked up a 2005 Legacy LGT yesterday and everything was working fine on my way home, I made sure i tested out everything on the radio and there were no problems.

Last night, I went to take my Fiance for a ride in the car. I went to turn on the AC and nothing worked below the radio screen, Radio knobs work,CD and the ipod connector still worked but nothing below the radio screen worked.

Area circled in red does not work. The amber lights inside the button work but when pushing the buttons, nothing happens.

So I decided to take the HU out and see what kind of mod the previous owner was using for the Ipod connectors. I took out all the screws securing the HU into the car and pulled the HU out as far as the wired would allow me. I then turned on the key to the car and checked to see if I could use the buttons and I could! Everything worked as it should.

I shut off the car and decided to run the ipod connectors to the glove box which I did so. Before I secured the HU back in place I wanted to make sure the buttons all still worked so I turned the key and tried again. Ugh now they don't work again . I have a feeling this has something to do with the mod that is hardwired into the HU which I have pictured of below.

Here is a pic of the module that is hardwired into the HU:

The module has an audio output left and right which lead to this:

This is the thing I don't understand.

I don't know crap about any of the items in the pictures above so could someone explain what those two things do and if and how that would affect the HU buttons not to work? I think what I really need to know is what set of wires control the lower portion of the HU?

if they worked at one pt, as u said then i would just re check all the connections as it seems too get ruffled up when you put the HU back in causing it to short or loosen the connection. check the fuses too

I checked the fuses and I also pulled all the cabled out of the back of the HU and put them back in. Still nothing.

This is probably unrelated to that mod. We have seen the hvac controls fail on more than a few head units. Someone had a few for it where they desolidered a bunch of stuff and resolidered it. We have a few 05 head units around the shop if you decided to go that route.

its a good possibility that with the mod done to the HU that something could be grounding out on one of the board causing it to short out. IMO ditch the Isimple connection and just go OEM. The only problem with that is you will loose Ipod connectivity!

I just disassembled the entire HU and got rid of the ISimple and PAC. Put everything back together and still a no go so I think Mike was right, its not the mod that is causing the problem.

I am Pretty sure the HU is shot so I'm going to buy a used one and see if that fixes the issue.
