amgarrety's 2003 Legacy B4

I've been a member here for over a year and I've never really formally introduced myself or showed off my car. So quick into - I'm Mike, I live in State College PA, and I know a lot (nearly too much) about the Legacy. Mostly the third gen, both USDM and JDM models.

Lets get to the car I drive. I'm just going to copy and paste the same kind of "overview-to-date" that I do on other forums, and I'll build from there as I do new stuff. Ready?

How she looks right now:

A brief walk-through from July 22, 2011 until now:

Day I bought her:

First try with the Hella 500s:

And got them right the second time:

The new tail lights:

New radio with new wood grain surround:

All interior lighting and gauge/hvac conversion:

And my (first) JDM Grille:

Current JDM grille installed:

And since I know MRLancaster is on here, here is an old photo of us chilling at a meet together:

And as I sit now. Photo taken at a meet in RI. The white car is the owner of SL-I (Reason), the blue car is a S401 (basically a twin turbo STI, only 286 made, owned by YamazakiSubaru), and of course, I am the silver car.

And one last artsy photo for good luck.

A bunch of updates regarding lighting.

First up, new HID headlights, because the light output of halogens sucks, and putting HIDs in a housing with a refector made for a halogen bulb is borderline irresponsible. Yes, they are aimed up a little to the left due to Japn driving on the other side of the road, but I'm working on the headlight leveling switch to control that myself.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8174/8058007146_cfa1983786_z.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8170/8058010055_22a02650cb_z.jpg

And I have done work with the leveling motors themselves. I hooked up a mock switch to get the motors moving, and I also replaced the wire on the connectors that attach to the headlight. The exporter cut the wires way too short to work with.

Before:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8314/8064003730_ee0509d441_z.jpg

After:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8174/8063664727_d1a2ca723c_z.jpg

Along with HID headlights, since it is possibly harmful to run them at a lower voltage than they are designed, I disabled DRLs. This left me with out DRLs all together, but I still like to have some sort of light on the front of my car, so the last mod for the day involved making my fog lights independent. We finally completed that project around 2am. Now all that there is left to do is wait for my headlight leveling switch to come in, wire that up, and then complete my gauge cluster project. I'm shooting to have the headlights done this week and the cluster done some time next week.

Just fogs, no other lights:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8318/8065879353_eb039b8ba5_z.jpg

Fogs and parking lights:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8462/8065882380_aaf2e7a7cc_z.jpg

And low beams and fogs, as normal.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8037/8065881423_8866365c65_z.jpg

I elected to not enable them to be on with high beams. It's a feature I can enable another time, but this more than covers the things I need it to (basically DRLs).

Haha thanks. Yeah, it was stock in Japan, but not here. I do have some bad news though regarding that hood.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8053/8081194436_9f858b62a4_z.jpg

It's no longer with us. The car still drives fine though, so I slapped my stock hood back on it and continued forward. I have much better plans for the car, so I'm not all that worried about it.

What I have done since then:

1) Wired a headlight leveling switch for the Japanese HID headlights

2) Completed the harness for the BFM, and finally installed it

i just got a 3rd gen myself and was curious about your bumper. Did the BE legacies come with 2 different model bumpers?

I've seen your car on Reddit haha. I recognized it right away.

Yes, there were two different bumpers. You have the '00-'02 bumper, and mine is the '03-'04 style.

Yes, they are interchangable. I may be selling my bumper soon.

Can you post a picture of your RSK bumper? The old style should look similar to mine, and the new style (D-type) won't fit your car without the correct hood.

D-type front end installed today. I installed the bumper, the headlights, and the hood all today. I received two grilles, so one is set aside for possibly changing out one day. Also snagged some side skirts, which after paint, will be installed. Here are some photos:

Looking at grabbing myself a new suspension setup while I'm at it.
