BanzGotBoost Posted October 9, 2012 Share Posted October 9, 2012 I know there are a lot of threads out there but I'm hoping someone could point me to a vendor or store that can get me the best deal. Brake pads need changing and I've been more or less happy with OEM performance. Took a look at the stop techs on amazon for about 110 shipped and was wondering if they would be better in the long run than say going to stock pads. Also, how do you guys feel about getting brakes done at a local meineke for example. My go to shop is asking a lot for changing the pads and I'd like to look elsewhere. Hawk ceramic pads and nice rotor's. You don't want stock pads, most of us have issues with them. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. They may need to be re surfaced. Look into the "bed in" procedure if you've never put on new pads before. And I would avoid all things jiffy lube. It gives the rotors a better surface for the pads to bite into. When they turn a rotor it makes small grooves. Got them from Fred Bean parts for a decent price and had a fellow owner show me how to change them, not very difficult if you have the tools. They are a great daily pad and also not bad for light track duty. They are also fairly low dusting and noise free. I think my rotors do need resurfacing partly due to the vibrations I'm feeling during hard breaking in the steering wheel. Any other recommendations apart from stop tech and hps? To me the HPS's dust a lot more. OP what your discribing is caused by the cheap pads not shedding the dust. The dust build's up on the rotor and causes the wheel to shimmy under braking. It's been covered here for years. The easy fix is Hawk or better pads. Other recomendation, buy from the guy's here. You help them out, and you know what your getting. By the time you pay the labor to remove the rotors and have them resurfaced, you are getting into the replacement rotor territory.
