pachilla
My 2007 Outback 3.0R's front driveshafts' boots (transmission side) have both developed leaks without cracking/splitting. after 3.5 years and 28k miles of driving. My friends 2006 Outback 3.0R also had the exact same problem after 3 years and 32K miles. The culprit is the location of the catalytic converters where they sit only inches below and baking the rubber boot. The rubber seal gradually harden I was stuck with a $150 USD bill after our dealer in Taiwan replaced both boots (not the CV boot) http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/9513/img7061z.jpg
cybonic
yeah it's the heat causing them to fail over time, mine broke and there was a huge smoke coming out from my bonnet once i open it. can see grease stains over the cat area. for wrx & gt the heat is worst.
