Blown Struts

Konis are a great go to strut as they are adjustable, can handle almost any spring out there and have a life time replacement if they blow. You can even have them revalved for a specific spring if youre getting them rebuilt.

An easier to install option are the Bilstein HDs. They require Spec B top hats but are easier to put in. Only thing is there aren't adjustable.

What you currently have and what performance you are looking for is a better gauge at what to recommend.

If you want to keep the stock springs and ride height on your 05 LGT, go with the Konis, which use the stock KYB-style top hats in front. The front Konis are strut inserts and require cutting up your stock front strut assemblies.

The Bilstein HDs are great, but require a Spec B top hat which will make your car ride about 5/8" higher in front when used with your stock front springs. They are best paired with Bilstein-style front springs, e.g., pinks, Swifts, Ions, etc.

Any disadvantage in going with Koni's and stock springs up front with OEM struts and stock springs out back? Rears were replaced with OEM 10K miles ago, by the dealer on their dime.

I would personally not mix and match them like that. I would go with a full Koni setup or get OEM Style front Struts to match the rears.

I'm just looking for a decent reliable replacement. I plan on doing wheels in the summertime but I'm not planning going over 8" wide or anything. I had Ksport coilovers on my GST and they were decent, but they definitely beat me up way too much- just not comfortable on trips over an hour. I've browsed subimods ISC coilover packages, I just don't know if it's the road I want to travel down again, especially since this car is daily driven on not the nicest Colorado roads. I have to see what a shop wants for labor to install either struts or coilovers too.

I'm in the same boat as you. 73k on the clock. Left rear shock is leaking fluid. Have minor marks on my rear sway where it's been hitting. Front right strut is about to blow. Car does not bounce if you push down hard at each corner.

If a DD and you are looking for OEM+ performance and feel, go with KYB. Bolts right in. No need to change your springs. I wanted bilstein HD's, but by the time you do tophats, mounts, boots, hardware and SWIFTS... $$$$.

Koni's are great and adjustable, but require you to cut (shorten) the strut tube a little bit. Good post from MyWifezLegi here. I went with KYB. Good luck with yours.
