Catalyst
6000k is borderline useless and 8000k will be dimmer than halogens. Both are pretty rice IMO but if it's really between those, the. 6000k. Although I'd highly recommend no higher than 5000k. Your cutoff will be blue/purple with a clear lens. "This is an adventure."
Pathtoyorsoul
Depends on your balasts, are you running 35w or 55w? I've been told that because 55w balasts make the bulbs burn hotter, you need like 6000k in 55s to be the equivalent of 5000k in 35s. Dunno, I'm not an hid expert, haha. Here's a pic of my 55w 6000k hid kit from ddm tuning. Sorry I don't have a night pic, but the color you see is about the same as the beam at night, maybe just a little more blue. But they're bright and still give you the sharp blue tint. http://m.facebook.com/?w2m&_rdr#!/photo.php?fbid=10150274898688140&id=644653139&set=a.10150155175503140.337275.644653139&refid=
AkumaMax
if you want that Blue look(Which I don't suggest for reasons stated above) is the 6000k. For best lighting stay between 4300k and 5000k. I suggest DDM tuning HID kit they have some fantastic kits for a cheap price.
N.sane
I like my 55W 6000K kit from DDM Tuning. When parked beside my friend's OEM HID's on his TSX, which is pure white, there's only a hint of blue. Definitely does NOT scream out "aftermarket" or "rice"

blaze741
I agree. buy HID's for max light output. 35w 4500k for me. pure white for the most part. they start blue when they fire, once warmed up, night and bright. =]
rtbrjason
35w 4500k here as well. I would stick to that if you want usable driving light. Go for 6000k if you get a 55w kit to get about the same color.
