Considering buying these rims... Forged STi Rays

Hello,

I'm think of buying these 1-piece forged monoblock JDM STi rims made by rays:

They are 17x7jj and +55 and somewhere around 18 lbs...

I cannot find much information about the rims, apart from what I can get from the AVO website where they are being sold. I think that they are the JDM STI Forester rims... http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd190/5Mi_Imports/Shipment%201/FSTi-1.jpg?t=1189531470

with out the STi stickers... am I right?

Anyway, for ~ $1000 I am wondering what else I could get that would be similar, or better... ???

Thanks!

I would never pay that much for a 7" wide rim. Its not even that light for a 17" rim. Id look elsewhere unless you think these rims are the hottest looking rim.

I've never owned any rim wider than 7"... How much of a difference does it make to have an extra half inch? Yes, I thought these rims looked pretty cool and forged construction was a bonus, especially for that price, but I posted this thread to get feedback and advice in making the decision. I do not need a track wheel... but I have a decent suspension setup and I would like to have a rim that suits the setup... But I also want a strong and forgiving rim that will not bent/crack/break on the pothole minefields in Boston. These rims would be mostly for summer use...

I've got 17x7 Prodrive P1s/Nokian WR G2s for my other wheels (three seasons)

I am having a hard time finding anything like these that are wider (and forged) for 1000!

I'm not really sure about an extra 1/2 inch, but I can DEFINITELY tell the difference between 17x7 stockers with RE92s vs. 18x8s with summer rubber. wider wheels means wider tires means bigger contact patch = better handling in summer conditions.

no, they are not the Ver7 STi rim. Ver7 STi GDB rim is a 5 spoke rim, with each spoke being split in 2 and flaring out as it reaches the rim lip. I think they are some of the hottest STI rims out there.

OK... That is good to know!

I mean, it kind of depends on a lot of things. Its not all cut and dry and I don't want to talk you out of it. I just think I'd personally also rather have wider cast rims than narrower forged rims (price being equivalent).

No... that is exactly why I started this thread! Thank you!

I was about to pull the trigger, but I wanted to see if there are better alternatives that would be more 'rim for the dollar' than the ones I was looking at! I might still get them... but I am at least exploring other options first!

The jdm forged rims - gold rays for $250 each is very attractive...

BUT, the 17x7 is not any improvement on what I already have! I just sold my 17x7 BBS RK rims with RE01Rs and the combination was incredible (to me)...

These rims would be the same size, but 2 lbs heavier than the RKs (16.2 lbs./cast)... So, I would not be able to get a wider tire than what I have already experienced!

It seems that wider tires, just like larger diameter ones, would cost more though, right? And I've already got some tires that fit the 17x7 rims kicking around, too!

Hmm... Help me out guys! What is a good, wider rim, at a comparable price that I should consider... ??? I've always thought that a bronze colored rim would look nice with my regal pearl blue sedan! Anyone want to suggest something?

Thanks!

Mark
