blown 5th gear.

Recommended Posts

The '80's 5MT tranny had an oil dripper/channeler tray that would take flung oil from the main gear area 1-4, catch it, and channel/drip it onto 5th gear.

I haven't seen the '05-09 tranny pulled apart, but in the old ones, 5th gear was "outside" of the main gear area and needed that tray to lubricate 5th.

Just a thought.

If not under drivetrain warranty the easiest alternative would be to get a new (used) gearbox or a complete driveline from a STi. (Gearbox+Rear Diff and also control unit for the DCCD.)

If you get an used gearbox make sure that the differential gearing is the same or you will have a sorry center diff.

Of course - you may be able to just pull the gearbox apart and replace the gears, but you will have to clean the gearbox thoroughly to get rid of metal shavings.
