AVO Turbokit - the Install

Recommended Posts

It's time to start a new thread, because the end goal is finally here. It's turbo kit install time!

This is going to take about a week's worth of time - not because it will take that long to install, but because we need to document the install and make instructions as we go.

Today was an important day for the Legacy and Outback N/A crowd. Today, I had one main issue to check - would the kit that was designed originally on a 2008 Impreza 2.5i fit?

The answer is yes.

Why did it take all day to check this? Welllllllll..... I had to remove the "front" pipe first, the catted section that connects the exhaust manifold to the midpipe. And I'll tell you right now, that is likely be the biggest pain of the entire operation, because getting those three bolts on the flange to the exhaust manifold off can take a lot of work. Especially if you round one of them off. And then have to run around finding a nut remover (besides getting married) that works.

But find it I did, and the nut was finally removed. Uppipe and downpipe were test fitted. Life became glorious, fish fell from the sky, and water changed to jack daniels.

So after I verified that, I kept on going.

I'll write it allll up in the next few weeks, but the removal of the front bumper probably will take half your time of the install. I swear Subaru does this on purpose. They must get kickbacks from the brewery's.

So from Monday I'll continue. Ross will show up that day to do all the important stuff (ie, telling me what to do). And Thursday... Subiefest road trip!!

I have a feeling that this kit is going to be for '06+ only. Creating a different uppipe and downpipe for one model year ('05) won't be cost-effective, unless AVO has determined it will be. So, let us know! :D

I find it funny that on August 11, 2009, Sean of Rallitek posted up the test fit of this kit on the Impreza and we all expected it to come soon. NOW, over a year later, its finally starting to show some promise!

FYI's -

1. This *is* a production kit. So unless something unknown comes up - they are ready to go. Tuning is going to be the thing.

2. 05 models don't have a different engine bay, afaik, they just have a different exhaust. So 05 owners will probably be able to use this kit by fitting a 06 exhaust manifold, and possibly needing a modification to the mid pipe. Won't know fully till one is fitted, tbh.

Finally, I get to see what a front mount on an Outback will look like!

Can you keep the bumper beam with the AVO FMIC?

Just to whet your appetites (we are going full bore on the kit right now as I type):

Just some of the finished production pieces that are going on the car.

Where we are at this time is hooking up the oil drain line. To do that, you will need to tap a line into the oil pan. Which is what we are doing atm, along with a variety of the other lines.
