Ice Wagon
ADDED TO-DO LIST AT BOTTOM OF THIS POST Hey guys, just signed up but I got my first subaru a few months back so I thought I'd throw some pictures up. http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20131204_150717.jpg Few days after bringing it home the clutch blew so had to wait till christmas for santa to help me with a new stage 1 kit http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140112_190205.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140113_211821.jpg Pulled the engine instead of the trans because I cant stand working on my back http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140120_152349.jpg Car runs just fine except for the rev limiter kicking in at 4200...no CEL and as of recently the car no longer likes reverse, after shifting to reverse and starting to rock the car back the trans pops and the inputshaft the trans is still spinning but the car wont move and the you gotta really bash on the shifter to get it out of reverse, any ideas?? To-Do: Brakes-FRONT DONE Diagnose the 4200 rev limiting problem-DONE Get smaller tires (possibly change wheels too)-DONE, looking for rims Radiator Mounts-ORDERED Battery Hold Down-DONE Diagnose Reverse problem Struts (possibly getting a different strut/spring setup) Diagnose why speedo doesnt work-DONE New Ebrake cable/ shoes Get rid of the dinky, broken, sad excuse of some foglights the PO put in the front bumper-DONE Get OE style fogs or somehow get 6" or similar off-road lights in there-DONE New Front Fenders Fix Rust under the car, above rear wheel wells, suspension and exhaust Replace sheet metal that was trimmed away to fit the 31"s on the rear wheel wells New headlight housings New front grill Dents are everywhere Front Swaybar bushings New Rear Swaybar and bushing (may use stock one and new bushings) New exhaust is needed(or lots of welding and new manifold gaskets, new cat or delete cat) Need to redo the block lift in the back or lower it a few inches If i keep the "wide-ness" I need to get the wheels covered to keep the law off me

Ice Wagon
Any ideas about my trans and rev limiting problem 2nd gen guys? http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140126_120315.jpg This was taken about 5 minutes before getting it stuck for the first time in one of the bigger storms this winter, shouldnt have been out there without a buddy but hey it was fun. It was whiteout conditions with a -30to40 windchill. http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140126_122101.jpg
Ice Wagon
Went in to DL today http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140225_142227.jpg Have a few problems that need dealing with: 1.Car wont stay in reverse, shifter pops forward and backward when I start moving in reverse 2. The rev limiter kicks in at 4200 all the time 3. My speedometer doesn't work 4. Getting harassed by the law about the tires, need to get flares http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140225_142239.jpg Tires cant be more than 2" past flares...need suggestions on how to cover them up http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140109_124648.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140224_154804.jpg
boxkita
looks like your front fender solution is pretty good? What is that - garage door trim? you might check if you can get away with using mud flaps that prevent throwing debris on tailgaters. Ice Wagon
Actually I think it a plastic barrel or bucket cut up... Besides pulling the engine to do the clutch I dont really have a warmish garage, nor one with a dry flat floor so I havnt really given the subaru a good inspection...ever, I'm going start a list of shit I need to fix, pulled my self along the ice under the rear of the car and saw well this... http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/20140226_144052.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/20140226_144043.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/20140226_143948.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/20140226_143919.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/20140226_143858.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/20140226_143845.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/20140226_143837.jpg So it looks like the rear subframe was dropped 4" as well as the control arm mounts and there are custom 3" spacers above the struts (welded and what not to tophat). It also looks like some brake cable was cut in a bunch of places (ebrake doesnt work just makes thumping noise when I pull it) and the subframe only has 3 bolts because imagine that the ghetto blocks snapped a bolt. I think I'm goin to put the car to stock or lowered height just to minimize problems and un-ghetto the car...my next post will have pics of the engine bay when I bought it...wasnt impressed by the uhhh quality of work haha
boxkita
good thing you have all that rust to hold it together. LOL lower it? a couple more inches and you'll be able to run truck mudders. Build my car Boxkita Track days

Ice Wagon
This looks like its incredibly fun to drive. It would be if it'd rev past 4200, shift into reverse properly, not rub on anything and maybe not be such a boat.....but I hate on it too much for what I normally put it through http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140227_171525.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140227_223128.jpg I need to thoroughly go through the car when I have a warm, dry and flat spot to do it and get a good list of what it needs. edit: I made a half-ass to do list in the first post
Ice Wagon
I live in Fargo,ND and right across the river is Moorhead. I was heading home from so. Moorhead and I rarely ever drive through there unless I have to, well it was dark, no close by street light and coming out of the upcoming street was a squad car waiting at the stop sign to turn and I turned onto the same street and the squad car immediately put its lights on and started driving in reverse following me...after a couple double takes I pulled over and the officer drove past me in reverse and stopped in the lane over and came up to my window. Apparently I had turned onto a one way, I had no idea! Never saw a sign or anything and there wasn't any traffic to watch either. I had just picked up this car for cheap, took the engine out, replaced the clutch, replaced some other stuff, put the engine back in and I had it running for maybe a week...anyway I was totally out of money and had no way of registering the vehicle until my first paycheck came from my new job. So he got me for no registration and driving on the wrong way of a one way, the officer had me walk back to Fargo in -33 windchill with no hat or gloves and with only a sweatshirt for gear while he had my car towed away. Luckily someone saw me and gave me a ride after about 15-20 mins of walking. I showed him total respect, no attitude and cooperated totally. I'm broke from just fixing the car, I'm still in highschool and make 8/hr, I have no way of getting to work and this incident will leave me about $500 in the hole and I still have no way of getting the money to get my car back or pay the fines. So long story short the subaru is in moorhead impound until I can figure out how to get it back.
otter4x4
(ebrake doesnt work just makes thumping noise when I pull it) It must be flat where you live; I couldn't get away with not having an e-brake here in Georgia!

Ice Wagon
where at in ND? Fargo Well I got the subaru back from the pigs over in Moorhead, I'm sure they woulda loved to have it for a patrol car haha Anybody know what the pitch, thread and size is for the 4 main bolts that hold the rear subframe/crossmember to the car? I also need the bolt dimensions for the control arm mounts. Need new rear top hats and bolts too and I need bolts for my swaybar endlinks on the back. What trans and engine mounts do I need? parts# would be nice, the shifter and trans bushings need replacing and I think I have to change the shift linkage out too Going to get the car stock outback ride height and close to the stock tire size. From there Im going to fix the body and exhaust up....while slowly adding suspension and engine mods here and there just to make the car nice and road worthy before I take a bigger step. http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/Mobile%20Uploads/20140303_134151.jpg
N2L
I would recommend digging around for your FSM online. They should have specifics in there (at least part numbers) in exploded diagrams for all of that.

My motor mounts were loose too so I tightened them up and not it is really hard to find the sweet spot to get reverse to work and harder to hold it there. http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/th_20140310_152731.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/th_20140310_162153.jpg
Ice Wagon
http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp237/Zeekery2233/96manualtransshifter.gif Where/how can I get the parts that come off the trans and go to the shifter itself? I need new bushings too and not having any luck finding this stuff. edit: Nevermind, stumbled onto a thread the led me to beleive the shifter knuckle is what I need and is $60s from dealer but I guess its a real b@#$% to take off.
