uncle humjaba
Hi all. I'm running the factory sway bars, just replaced end links with moog parts (didn't fix my problem), and have 57k miles. I can't figure out what sounds like a metallic clicking/rattling over high-frequency low-amplitude bumps (expansion joints, manhole covers, etc.) on the rear passenger side. The sway bar mounts look good, and no manner of pushing, rocking, kicking the sway bar or exhaust while the car is stationary has recreated the noise. Any ideas? orndog
All the stuff in the trunk properly secured, including jacks and tools under the floor?
uncle humjaba
All the stuff in the trunk properly secured, including jacks and tools under the floor? Yes. You can hear it from outside the car (and you can hear it more clearly with the windows down) which leads me to believe it is a suspension thing. In my searching I ran across the possibility of a bent rotor dust shield - I'll check on that tomorrow.
orndog
Not trying to call you a noob, but gotta start at the bottom of the list (the stories I could tell). If you have a driveway you can do like you said, put it up and start inspecting. You can also head off to Sears for a free check-up and estimate
uncle humjaba
Still can't figure out what's wrong... Here's a video where you can hear it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIePaWQOGso&feature=youtu.be
subadoo_95
did you tighten everthing on the back with the weight on the tires, pretty much just sliding under the car and tighten everything.
orndog
Looks like the RSB does a bit of moving, check it's mounts all around. Also, does your exhaust have a cover over the tip?
Hemingway
Have you checked all the exhaust hangers, bolts and/or heat shields?
uncle humjaba
Hemingway - I did the clutch yesterday, and everything looked good as far as the exhaust is concerned. orndog - I visually checked all the RSB mounts but I'll go over them with a wrench when it stops raining. We've seen these as a place of failure when they breakdown you will get the sway bar moving around under load. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. bochinam
Not sure what that clank is, but that's a great up skirt video! What cam / mic did you use?
NewLegGT67
Great video!! Did you ever figure out what the rattling noise was? I have been experiencing the same noise in the same location as you described and I also cannot figure out what it could be. I've even taken everything out of the trunk hoping it was something that was not secure. However, I am still hearing this annoying sound similar to Uncle Humjaba. I'm probably the only person that has Wu-Tang Clan and Paul McCartney on their mp3.
