Perrin TMIC spacer kit (AKA, slave cylinder anti-rub kit)

Recommended Posts

The good news is, the installation of this spacer couldn't be much easier. You don't even have to remove the TMIC. It consists of an aluminum spacer, two O-rings, and two (longer, 13mm) bolts:

The OEM bolts are 12mm, so you'll want to have both sockets, a ratchet, and an extension handy.

The spacer is installed between the TMIC & the turbo...

...and (presumably) raises the TMIC enough so it won't rub on the clutch slave cylinder.

The bad new (for me) is, the f&$#tards that installed my TMIC cross-threaded the aft hole in my turbo. (so much for "bring it to a shop so it doesn't get messed up...) The bolt came out OK, but as soon as I started threading in the new one, I felt it snag. I backed it out, lifted the TMIC, and tried to see if there is enough room for a tap - there isn't. I threaded the old bolt in there at every angle possible, and it caught every time, near the top of the threads. I pulled the bolt out and sure enough, shiny threads all the way through:

So, rather than do things the right way & in the interest of getting some logs before I have to fly out of town, I threaded the new bolt in & tightened it down. I figure it needs to be fixed anyway, and if I have leaks, I'll pull the TMIC & have plenty of room to mess with tapping the turbo.

Here's the spacer, installed:

It's really a 10-minute or less job if everything goes smoothly. I'm about to go driving to find out if I have leaks and if the TMIC still rubs.

Get a longer bolt and put a nut on the bottom. When they did my clutch job, they borked the aft bolt hole and that's what I did. Worked fine until I replaced the turbo.

perrin part number or just call them?

Just call them.

FYI, this didn't cure all of my rub issues, but took care of the high amplitude, low frequency stuff. I'm stacking washers on the outlet-side bracket to try to mitigate the rest.
