what year forester stuts?

i want to put forester struts in my 98 lgt. what years will work?

X2. I was told that these will work (struts and springs) if you take the mounts (I am assuming these are the tophats) off of the legacy struts and put them on the Forester struts. I am debating on also using lift spacers on top of the bigger struts.

 

I haven't found a ton of info on this so if anyone remembers a thread or has pics of this, that would be very helpful.

 

Most of the advice bouncing around here is to get OB struts and use Forester springs, which would be a more bolt in option...

Sticky says Second gen froester IIRC. Tophats will be needed is what i've read, at least for the back.

i thought is was any first gen forestor? i think 98-03?

I stand corrected on tophats, my research has not found anything saying you need them for forester. I must have been thinking about the Impreza swap. So far I haven't found anything about model year specifics on the foresters aside from what our sticky says.

I used '03 Forester struts and retained Legacy springs and tophats. The actual lift that just the struts provided was ~1 inch. The biggest gain was the ability to put 16" wheels on and clear the lower spring perch. I am running 215-60-16's with no rubbing unless I am in some pretty gnarly terrain (it's only happened once.) To run the Forester springs, you would also need the Forester tophats because the rear spring is tapered and won't fit in the Legacy tophat.
