0Tyrael0
Alright got a quick question for ya. I got the 99 Legacy GT and have been working on upgrading the stereo. Already got the set of 4 speakers installed and while i was doing so I realized I never thought to put in new tweeters. So what size do I need to fit right into the stock bracket? Is there a popular brand everyone is using that fits really well? If there is already a thread that answers my question feel free to point me in the right direction. The search engine is not very good on this site not to mention it covers every generation of legacy so its hard to find stuff sometimes. Thanks for you help
subikid90
I have alpine tweeters in my car. They came with the door speaker set SPS-600 from alpine. They are awesome, I just JB welded them onto the stock bracket and they work fine. But since you already bought the speakers that is not an option for you. I didnt do them in my white car and did them in my black car, its a huge difference. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
0Tyrael0
Cool thanks for the info. So are the 3/8s about the same size? Like they fit with the stock cover and everything?
Zues Marine
where is this 'stock bracket'?
0Tyrael0
I dont know I was talking about the stock cover. I remember when i was taking it apart the tweeter was hooked (in some way) to a black plate. But I did not pay any attention to it as I was working on the door speaker. Zues Marine
yeah, on some models, but all the leggys are pre wired for them.. its the little plastic triangle covering the mirrors near the door locks kinda
subikid90
He has a gt justin, he has the stock crappy ones. The aftermarket ones wont fit on the bracket but if you use JB weld they wont come off. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
0Tyrael0
O yeah thats what I am talking about. I could hardly even tell if there was sound coming out of them. Does it make a big difference if I swap them?
subikid90
I noticed a huge difference. It actually makes sound out of the alpine ones lol. I only paid an extra $10 bucks and I am happy I did, for $35 I would probably still do it if I had the money. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
0Tyrael0
Alright I like that idea. So you just glued them on and put the cover back over them?
subikid90
Yep. I think I had to cut something to make it possible to JB weld them. It wasnt hard though I know that. Ill look at mine today when i go home. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
0Tyrael0
Alright thanks. This is probably what I will do. Seems like a cheap way to get a bit better sound.
