31 MPG in a 2002 Subaru Legacy GT Limited

Recommended Posts

I just drove from Mountaintop PA to Washington DC and back on one tank of gas driving 451 miles and burning 14.6 gal of gas. This was a 2-day trip and involved limited city driving but some. (Stayed at the Mayflower up the street from the White House). Yes, the low gas light was on the last 30 miles.

Anyway, I drive a 2002 Legacy Limited GT w/ a 5 speed (non-turbo). The car has 118,000 on it and I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil and have used for the past 20,000 miles. I should also note that this GT has always gotten great gas milage and I noticed a furhter imporvement when I swtiched over to the new Iridium spark plugs about 15,000 miles ago.

That should be about right for a non turbo 4 cyl. I drove from Cincinnati to Gatlinburg in my 2000 Firebird Formula and got 29.1MPG. That is a 300+ HP V8. The trip to GAtlinburg also has some decent hills and I drove over Jellico mountain so it wasn't all flat driving either.
