I Donated broknindarkagain Posted March 27, 2011 I Donated Share Posted March 27, 2011 its dual over head cam....meaning there are two cams per head...and you have two heads, so you have 4 cams all together. And you're engine isn't just an EJ25. Its an EJ25D -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." DelawareBlueHen724
I was new to Subaru, and thought all 2.5's came DOHC, so I was confused to the whole EJ25D and EJ25 thing too lol
subikid90
EJ25 is just the block stamp. Every EJ25 has that stamping. Subaru has had many EJ25's, EJ25D, EJ251 EJ253, EJ255 and EJ257. EJ251/3 is pretty much the same block, just an updated EJ25D. EJ255/7 is a semi closed version of the EJ251/3. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

subikid90
The EJ25D is a specific version of the EJ25.EJ25 just tells you it is a 2.5l motor, the 'D' or '1/3/5/7' tells you the rest of the info like bore, stroke, etc. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

subikid90
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_EJ_engine And I meant to say bore/stroke is the same for all EJ25's, compression ratio is what changes with the model. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

johnegg
if your engine is original to the car, the id tag on the driver strut tower will tell you. it will say EJ25Dxxxxxxxxx or EJ251xxxxxxxxxx. in the early ej22s only the turbos had a closed deck design. i don't know if that is also true for the ej25s. subikid90
If your coil pack is female then you have phase I, if it is male then you have phase II. I hope you know that he was lucky to pull that power from an EJ25D. He also had the tune down to an art, which is 90% of the reason engines blow when forced induction is added. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
