Claw
Tried to use my spare to start the car the other day. It cranks for a second, then stops cranking. Shut down the car, pulled the + off from the battery, waited a day, put everything back on and tried to start again. No go.. it would crank for a second, show all the warning lights, then shut down. Use my regular key, car starts up no problem. Is it the immobilizer preventing the spare key from starting the car? I'm thinking it's a problem with the key itself and not the car.. thoughts? Thank you.

Underdog
What happens if you put the good key on the steering column and try to start with the spare? The Crimson Dynamo
Claw
Nope, that wouldn't start it either.. tried it with the spare in the ignition and the good key right next to the spare.
bluesuby
If your car had the ECU replaced as part of the "cooling fans running all the time" recall, the extra keys should have been reflashed at that time. Don't assume the dealer remembered to do this.
